CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – The Boston University men's ice hockey team erased three one-goal deficits but No. 5 Boston College got the game-winner with 5:40 left in regulation in a 4-3 contest on Saturday evening at Conte Forum.
Senior captain
Patrick Curry scored two goals for the Terriers, who move to an even 8-8-5 on the year with a 5-4-4 Hockey East mark. The Eagles improve to 15-5-0 and 9-3-0 in conference play.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- BC opened the scoring exactly nine minutes into the game when Logan Hutsko found a seam in the neutral zone and took a pass from Julius Mattila before getting ahead of the BU defense and converting a breakaway.
- Senior Patrick Harper knotted it up for BU at 16:10 of the first, taking a pass from freshman Domenick Fensore on the right side before curling to the slot, where he beat BC netminder Spencer Knight with a wrister.
- The Eagles were able to take a 2-1 lead into the first intermission thanks to a tally by Mike Hardman with 2:35 remaining in the opening period.
- The lone goal of the second period was scored by the Terriers as junior Cam Crotty found Logan Cockerill in front of the crease for a shot the Knight saved, but Curry quickly put back the rebound from the left circle to make it a 2-2 affair at 9:37.
- BC regained the lead yet again on Hutsko's second tally of the night at the 4:19 mark of the third.
- BU used a power play to create the third deadlock of the night with Curry ripping a one-timer from the slot off a pass by freshman Trevor Zegras with 14:24 left in regulation.
- The game-winner came on a fortunate bounce for the home team as Mattila's centering pass off a rush went off a BU defender and in for a 4-3 lead.
- With goaltender Sam Tucker pulled in favor of an extra attacker, Harper drew a cross-checking penalty to give the Terriers a 6-on-4 advantage for the final 1:48 of play, but Knight and the Eagles held down the fort to secure the win. Â Â
