Women's Tennis Sweeps Binghamton in Season Opener, 7-0

WATERTOWN, Mass. – Hosting its first of six home matches at the Mount Auburn Club, the Boston University women's tennis team opened the 2020 dual season with a 7-0 victory over Binghamton on Sunday evening.

Freshman Erica Di Battista, junior Alex Angyalosy, junior Lily Burchell and freshman Steph Nguyen were victorious in both singles and doubles to help the Terriers (1-0) sweep the Bearcats (0-1).

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Burchell and Nguyen teamed for a 6-0 win at line 3 in doubles, while Angyalosy and Di Battista posted a 6-2 victory at line 2 to give BU an early 1-0 lead.
  • The Bearcats avoided the doubles sweep by defeating junior Emily Kim and sophomore Shelly Yaloz, 6-2, in the top slot.
  • Yaloz rebounded by winning all 12 games at No. 2 singles, and Kim held off a late charge at line 3 for the 6-1, 6-7, 10-8 victory.
  • Following an impressive fall tournament performance, Di Battista improved to 10-1 overall with a 6-2, 6-1 win at line 1.
  • Angyalosy, Nguyen and Burchell won their respective singles match, dropping just four games apiece to complete the 7-0 sweep.

  • The Terriers will host the Bulldogs on Saturday (Jan. 25) at 3 p.m.
  • BU claimed a 7-0 sweep last season.
