NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Concluding a two-match weekend road trip to the state of Connecticut, the Boston University men's tennis team claimed three singles points in straight sets but was unable to overcome losing the doubles point for the 4-3 defeat at Yale on Sunday afternoon.
The Bulldogs (2-0) swept the Terriers in doubles action and added three singles points in straight sets to hold off the Terriers (1-1) following a 5-2 win over Boston College on Saturday.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Yale posted a 6-1 win in the No. 2 slot for doubles but was taken to the brink in the other two matches.
- The Bulldogs edged senior Marc Sable and junior Ethan Kolsky, 7-6, at line 3 and finished ahead of juniors David Bogatin and Owen Lu, 6-4, in the top position for the 1-0 advantage.
- Yale dropped a combined four games at lines 1 and 5 to take a commanding 3-0 lead.
- Lu put BU on the scoreboard with a 6-2, 6-4 win at line 2, and his doubles partner, Bogatin, followed up with a 6-4, 7-5 win in the No. 3 slot.
- Freshman Kirill Belov tried to mount a rally and force a third set at No. 6 but ultimately came up short, 6-1, 6-4, as Cody Lin clinched the team win for the Bulldogs.
- Hartenstein added one more point for the Terriers by holding off his opponent in the No. 4 slot for the 6-3, 7-5 win.
NEXT UP: MERRIMACK
- BU will remain on the road and next face the Warriors Friday (Jan. 31) in Haverhill, Massachusetts, with a 4 p.m. start time.
- The Terriers won the last meeting between the two programs, 5-0, back in 2018.
