BURLINGTON, Vt. - Freshman
Trevor Zegras scored a game-winning power play goal with 3:35 left in regulation to help the Boston University men's ice hockey team earn a 4-2 road victory over Vermont on Friday evening at Gutterson Fieldhouse.
Freshman
Case McCarthy scored his first collegiate goal and senior
Gabriel Chabot tallied his second goal in as many games. Freshman goaltender
Ashton Abel made 28 saves to remain undefeated as a starter (3-0-1).
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Vermont scored the lone goal of the opening period as Derek Lodermeier converted a breakaway 8:41 into the game.
- The Terriers got an equalizer from McCarthy at the 5:17 mark of the second as the rookie defenseman skated down the right side and converted a short-side attempt from a tough angle for his first goal as a Terrier.
- Chabot gave the Terriers their first lead of the contest less than two minutes into the third, redirecting a McCarthy offering at the right crease before cleaning up the rebound for a 2-1 lead.
- The Catamounts responded just 59 seconds later when Ace Cowans kept the puck in the zone and passed off to Andrew Lucas, who found Christian Evers for a goal.
- With the score at 2-2, the Terriers' penalty kill came through twice to keep the game in a deadlock.
- BU got a late power-play chance and Zegras provided the game-winner from the left circle, sneaking a shot inside the near post to give the visitors a 3-2 lead.
- Senior captain Patrick Curry added an empty-netter to create the 4-2 final.
