BOSTON – Playing in his collegiate debut,
Wilmer Skoog scored in overtime to lift the Boston University men's ice hockey team to a thrilling 3-2 victory over visiting Brown on Wednesday evening at Agganis Arena.
Â
The Terriers found themselves in a 2-0 hole early but drew even with goals from freshman
Trevor Zegras and junior
David Farrance.
Â
Sam Tucker stopped the last 25 shots he faced to help BU win its third straight game and improve to 7-6-5 on the season. Brown dropped to 3-12-0.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Brown recorded only three shots in the opening period but scored on two of them to take a 2-0 lead 14:32 into the contest.
- Zach Giuttari opened the scoring at 3:44 when his shot went off a BU skate and in before Justin Jallen scored his team-leading eighth goal of the season on the first power play of the night for either team.
- The Terriers quickly cut into the deficit, however, as Zegras took a pass from senior Patrick Harper and scored far post from the right circle on a delayed penalty just 43 seconds after Brown's second tally.
- Harper's assist allowed him to become the 84th player in program history to record 100 career points.
- Farrance provided the equalizer midway through the middle period when his left-point attempt glazed off the glove of a Brown defender to the back of the net.
- After a scoreless third period where each team had some strong go-ahead opportunities, the Terriers needed overtime for the sixth time this season.
- A penalty on BU freshman Sam Stevens just 25 seconds into the extra session gave the visitors a prime chance but the Terrier penalty kill was up to the task.
- Moments after BU returned to full strength, freshman Robert Mastrosimone took a shot that went off the crossbar but freshman Ethan Phillips collected the rebound and found an open Skoog, who buried a shot from just above the right dot to end the game.
