It's been 279 days since the Boston University women's ice hockey team played a game, but the No. 8 Terriers will finally take the ice on Friday night when they travel to New Hampshire to begin a two-game series with the Wildcats.
Led by 16th-year head coach Brian Durocher, BU returns 17 letter winners from last year's squad that won 24 games and finished second in the league standings, which is where the league's coaches have predicted them to finish this season. Among the returners are senior forward Jesse Compher and senior goaltender Corinne Schroeder, who have been selected as Hockey East All-Stars in each of the last two years. Compher and classmate Nara Elia, the team's leading returner scorers, will serve as co-captains while junior Kaleigh Donnelly and senior Kristina Schuler are assistant captains.
Seven talented newcomers have joined the Terriers for the 2020-21 campaign. Catherine Foulem, Clare O'Leary and Lacey Martin will skate with a forward group that returns six of its top nine point producers fro last year. Andi Calderone, Madison Cardaci, Tamara Giaquinto and Julia Shaunessy will bring youth to a BU blue line that features junior Alex Allan, sophomore Grace Parker and 2019-20 Hockey East All-Rookie Team honoree Nadia Mattivi.
UNH dropped both games of a home-and-home series with Boston College on Nov. 20 and 21, suffering a 6-2 setback at home before falling, 4-1, in Chestnut Hill. Sophomore Tamara Thiérus leads New Hampshire with two points (1g, 1a). Freshman Brianna Brooks and sophomore Jada Christian have also lit the lamp, while four other players have one assist apiece. Senior goaltender Ava Boutilier started both games for the Wildcats; she enters the weekend with a 4.04 goals-against average and an .879 save percentage.
