Terriers Triumph at Cornell, 4-3

ITHACA, N.Y. – After dropping a tightly-contested doubles point, the Boston University women's tennis team rallied with four singles wins to edge Cornell, 4-3, on Saturday afternoon at the Reis Tennis Center.

With the one-point win in the road opener, the Terriers remain perfect at 3-0, while the Big Red drop to 0-5.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Cornell jumped out to a 1-0 lead with wins in the No. 2 and 3 doubles slots by a combined score of 12-7.
  • Junior Emily Kim and sophomore Shelly Yaloz avoided the doubles sweep by edging the Big Red's top duo, 2019 All-Ivy League honoree Valerie Ho and Maria Adiaconitei, in a tiebreaker, 7-6(5).
  • Kim (#3) and junior Lily Burchell (#5) posted identical 6-4, 6-2 victories in their respective slots to give BU a 2-1 advantage.
  • Two-time Patriot League Player of the Week and freshman Erica Di Battista triumphed with a 6-4, 7-5 win against Ho for the third point.
  • Cornell's Adiaconitei avenged her doubles loss by edging Yaloz in three sets, 6-2, 1-6, 7-5.
  • Freshman Steph Nguyen provided the clinching point with a hard-fought 6-3, 2-6, 6-3 win at line 6.
  • The Big Red put the final deficit at one point by holding off junior Alex Angyalosy, 7-6(3), 5-7, 6-4.

  • BU will next visit the Orange on Sunday (Feb. 2) for an 11 a.m. start time.
