Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

D'Alto Has Career Day in 15-10 Loss at Bryant

SMITHFIELD, R.I. - Freshman Vince D'Alto scored a career-high five goals and added an assist for a career-best six points, but the Boston University men's lacrosse team suffered a 15-10 setback at Bryant on Tuesday night at Beirne Stadium.

BU (1-3) and Bryant (1-2) battled blustery, rainy conditions for much of the contest. The Terriers were within two goals at halftime, but Bryant outscored BU, 6-3, in the third quarter to pull away. BU battled back to get within four early in the fourth frame, but that was as close as the Terriers came to equalizing.

D'Alto followed his three-goal, two-assist effort at UMass Lowell on Saturday by notching five goals and one assist against the Bulldogs. He was one of four Terriers to notch at least two points, as junior Tommy Nook, sophomore Timmy Ley and freshman Louis Perfetto all totaled one goal and one assist apiece.

Senior Jared Nugent scored for the fourth straight game while sophomore defender Will Carson collected his first goal of the year in addition to two ground balls and a team-best three caused turnovers. Junior Kevin Snyder went 11-for-22 at the faceoff X with five ground balls and also contributed his first assist of the year. Sophomore Jake Cates and junior Michael Doxie each collected their first assist of the season, as did senior Reece Eddy.

Eddy had another monster day on the defensive end, as he secured seven ground balls and matched Carson with a team-high three caused turnovers. Senior Chase Levesque also forced three giveaways and added five ground balls while classmate Nicholas Ellerton recorded four ground balls and one caused turnover. Freshman Collin Loughead totaled three ground balls and one caused turnover. BU was directly responsible for 17 of the Bulldogs' 22 turnovers on the day.

Senior Joe McSorley kept the Terriers in the contest with several outstanding stops. He finished the day with 16 saves and has combined for 33 saves over his last two appearances. McSorley also added three ground balls and one caused turnover.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Bryant scored three goals in a span of 1:52 to grab a 3-0 lead with 11:04 left in the first quarter.
  • BU responded with two straight goals of its own to cut the deficit to one, beginning with D'Alto's first goal of the day that came about due to terrific ball movement by Perfetto and Ley.
  • Perfetto tallied the second goal after Loughead rode hard and forced a Bryant turnover. Perfetto picked up the loose ball just outside the Bryant box and ran uncontested to the cage before slotting home his third tally of the season.
  • The Bulldogs scored the next two goals before Doxie found D'Alto in transition for a goal with 10:05 to go in the second quarter to make it a 5-3 game, which is where it stood at halftime.
  • Bryant began the third quarter with five straight goals, including two man-up markers, to take a 10-3 lead.
  • Nugent and Trevor Weingarten traded goals to make it an 11-4 game before BU closed the quarter with two straight goals. Carson scored off a faceoff when Eddy won the ground ball and dished it to his fellow long pole.
  • Nook then separated from a defender to get off a shot and rip home his first goal of the season to make it an 11-6 contest.
  • D'Alto opened the fourth quarter with a man-up goal to make it 11-7.
  • The teams continued to trade goals from then on, as D'Alto twice answered a Bulldog strike with one of his own. Bryant added a pair of goals with McSorley out of the cage before Ley closed the scoring in the final minute.
