BOSTON - Karissa Schweizer of Bowerman Track Club broke the indoor 3K U.S. record at the TTC on Thursday during Day 1 of the BU Last Chance Meet. Schweizer finished with an amazing time of 8:25.70 to shatter the previous mark of 8:33.25 set by Shalane Flanagan back in 2007.

In the same race, both Shelby Houlihan (8:26.66) and Colleen Quigley (8:28.71) also ran under the previous record.Â
Schwizer's time was the fourth-fastest 3K ever, behind only world record-holder Genzebe Dibaba (8:16.6), Meseret Defar (8:23.72) and Meselech Melkamu (8:23.74).

Schweizer's time is also faster than the outdoor U.S. mark of 8:25.83 held by Mary Slaney.

In addition to a record breaking 3K, Konstanze Klosterhalfen broke the German and European record in the 5K with a time of 14:30.79.Â

On the men's side, Oregon's James West, a redshirt senior, ran the fastest indoor 1,500-meter time in collegiate history. West finished in 3:36.93 and broke former Oregon legend Edward Cheserek's all-time mark of 3:37.01 a time also set at the Boston University Track & Tennis Center in 2017 in route to the collegiate record in the mile (3:52.01).
Competing in the 3K, Lopez Lomong finished with a time of  7:37.74, followed by Ryan Hill (7:38.03), Evan Jager (7:38.25) and Grant Fisher (7:39.99), all four from Bowerman Track Club.
Day 2 of the BU Last Chance meet is Friday with several additional records sure to fall. The men's 5K invite will take place  at 4:50pm as Paul Chelimo will shoot for the USA 5K record of 13:01.26 as he takes on Edward Cheserek in a highly anticipated men's 5K.Â
