Mahoney Earns NABC All-District Accolades, Spot in 3x3 Tournament

March 23, 2020

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Adding to his awards haul, Boston University men's basketball senior Max Mahoney has earned NABC All-District 13 First Team honors, the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) announced Monday morning. The Basking Ridge, New Jersey, native was also named to the four-member squad that would have represented the Patriot League at the third annual Dos Equis 3X3U National Championship during Final Four weekend in Atlanta.

The announcement marked the first time a Terrier was recognized by the NABC since Eric Fanning ('17) was placed on the first team in 2017. Mahoney would have been the first Terrier as well to compete for a $100,000 prize pool at the now-canceled 3x3 tournament, which consists of all 32 NCAA Division I conferences and a combined 128 players who have exhausted their collegiate eligibility.

The 2020 Patriot League tournament MVP Mahoney had a memorable senior campaign, leading the Terriers in points (15.5 ppg), rebounds (8.3 rpg), steals (1.1 spg) and blocks (0.5 bpg) while also ranking second in assists (2.6 apg). In the PL semifinals against Bucknell, he became just the fourth in program history to reach 1,500 points and 700 rebounds.

He posted a double-double in six of his last seven games and finished with 18 points, 10 rebounds and four assists in the PL title win at top-seed Colgate. He earlier recorded a career-high 38 points at Binghamton and nearly once had a triple double with 18 points, nine rebounds and eight assists vs. Army West Point.

Mahoney claimed his third All-PL award and his first USBWA All-District honor earlier in the month of March. He would have been joined during Final Four weekend by Colgate's Will Rayman, Loyola's Andrew Kostecka and American's Sa'eed Nelson in the 3x3 tournament.
