March 30, 2020 | Men's Ice Hockey
Cockerill, who served as an assistant captain this past year, missed half of the 2019-20 season due to in an injury suffered during the first home weekend. A hard-working two-way forward, Cockerill focused on returning to the lineup by the start of the spring semester, and did just that, helping to solidify the team up front. A veteran of 92 contests, Cockerill has tallied 36 points on 14 goals and 22 assists as a Terrier.
"We were very excited that Logan was voted by his teammates to be the next captain of BU hockey," said O'Connell. "Logan is a natural leader and his competitive spirit on and off the ice is infectious. He has big shoes to fill with Patrick Curry graduating, but after wearing an 'A' this year as a junior, he has already demonstrated that he can lead. Our spring workouts start today and we're confident that Logan will be able to keep the team connected and focused during these difficult times."
As a sophomore, Cockerill earned a silver medal with Team USA at the 2019 World Juniors. He made an immediate impact as a freshman in 2017-18, playing in 37 contests and recording 20 points on eight goals and 12 assists.
Cockerill came to BU from the U.S. National Team Development Program and captured a gold medal at the 2017 IIHF U18 World Championship. He totaled 27 points (14g, 13a) in 52 games for the 2016-17 U.S. National Under-18 Team and helped the U.S. squad win titles at the 2016 and 2017 U18 Five Nations Tournaments.
O'Connell will name the assistant captains for the 2020-21 team in April.
