March 31, 2020

Former Boston University women's ice hockey standout Marie-Philip Poulin was picked as the top female women's hockey player in the world by the National Hockey League Players Association (NHLPA), as revealed on Tuesday.

Poulin received 39.92% of the vote to earn this honor. Nearly 500 NHL players voted in the annual poll.

A three-time Olympian and two-time Olympic gold medalist, Poulin has consistently been one of the top hockey players in the world, regardless of gender. The current captain of Canada's senior national team, Poulin was named to the roster for the 2020 Women's World Championship, which would have been her ninth appearance at that event. In 129 games with the senior national team, Poulin has scored 67 goals and added 73 assists for 140 points.

During her impressive career at BU, Poulin won two Hockey East championships and helped the Terriers advance to the national title game in 2011 and 2013. She graduated in 2015 having notched 81 goals and 100 assists in just 111 games. Poulin was a First Team All-American and a top-three finalist for the Patty Kazmaier Memorial Award as a senior.
