CENTER VALLEY, Pa. - Sophomore Andrea Claeson of the Boston University women's track & field team has been named Patriot League Scholar-Athlete of the Year, the conference announced on Friday.
 
Claeson, the 2020 Patriot League Indoor Champion in both the mile and the 3000m run, excelled both on the track and in the classroom. She earned an impressive 3.70 GPA as a public relations major.
 
Claeson turned in an incredible performance at the PL Championship on Feb. 29-March 1. The Luleå, Sweden native won gold in the 1 mile run with a time of 4:59.03, coming from behind to defeat Army's Samantha Coletti. Later in the meet, Claeson competed in the 3000m run and battled teammate Sophia Jacobs-Townsley for gold through the final turn. Once again, Claeson's finishing kick won the race in a time of 9:43.22.
 
Her two wins earned the Terriers 20 points, making her the PL Highest Point-Scorer Award winner. At the conclusion of the meet she was also named PL Track Athlete of the Meet.

Along with Claeson, junior Bridget Bishop was named to the Academic All-Patriot League Team. Bishop won bronze in the shot put at the PL Championships with a throw of 13.88m (45'6.50"). In the classroom, Bishop maintained a GPA of 3.77 in business administration and management. Bishop and Claeson are both making their first appearance on the Patriot League Academic All-Patriot League Team.

 Claeson, Bishop and their teammates will return to the track for the 2020 outdoor season which begins on March 14 when the Terriers travel to the Occidental Distance Carnival & Spring Break Classic in Los Angeles.
