Women's Ice Hockey Announces Class of 2024

BOSTON - The Boston University women's ice hockey team will welcome seven newcomers to the program as part of the Class of 2024, head coach Brian Durocher announced on Monday.

"I would like to welcome seven outstanding student-athletes to Boston University and our hockey program," head coach Brian Durocher said. "Thanks to the tireless effort and great work of assistant coaches Liz Keady Norton and Tara Watchorn, we will add a talented group of hockey players to the tradition of excellence at Boston University."

Three forwards (Catherine Foulem, Lacey Martin, Clare O'Leary) and four defenders (Andi Calderone, Madison Cardaci, Tamara Giaquinto, Julia Shaunessy) comprise the incoming class.

"I am confident that these seven skaters will bring size, speed, ability and hockey sense to our team," Durocher said. "My staff and I look forward to working with these talented women as they begin their collegiate careers. I am excited for the many contributions this group will make on the ice, in the classroom and throughout the community."
 

Andi Calderone (Kirkland, Que./John Abbott College)
 
BEFORE BOSTON UNIVERSITY
Played two seasons for John Abbott College … Invited to 2020 Hockey Canada National Women's Team Development Camp … Selected as team MVP in 2019-20 one year after being chosen as her team's Rookie of the Year … Played in the 2020 RSEQ All-Star Game … Won a silver medal with Team Quebec at the 2019 Canada Games … Selected to a pair of Hockey Canada U18 summer development camps … Received a scholarship for academic and athletic excellence from the Montreal Canadiens in both 2018 and 2019 … Was the top scoring defender in her league while serving as captain of the Midget AA Lac St. Louis Warriors.
 
Madison Cardaci (Westminster, Mass./Williston Northampton School)
 
BEFORE BOSTON UNIVERSITY
Skated for Williston Northampton School as well as East Coast Wizards … As a senior captain at Williston, led her team to the semifinals of the Elite 8 Tournament … Won the Team Sportsmanship Award in 2019 and 2020 and was also given the school's inaugural Athletic Leadership Award … Participated in three USA Hockey development camps … Posted a seven-game power-play point streak as a junior and also scored the overtime-winning goal to beat St. Paul's for the first time in school history … As a sophomore, scored the game-winning goal in the NEPSAC semifinals to lead her team to the title game … Helped the Wizards win two state titles and place third at three straight national championship events … Also played field hockey and lacrosse at Williston, captaining those teams as a senior … Was a 2019 Western New England All-Star and was named to the Division I All-NEPSAC Team in field hockey.
 
Catherine Foulem (Dieppe, N.B./Ridley College)
 
BEFORE BOSTON UNIVERSITY
Skated for Ridley College, where she captained the team as a senior and also earned the school's Rookie of the Year award … Nominated for Ridley College's Female Athlete of the Year award, which will be presented in October 2020 … Twice selected to the JWHL All-Star Game … Named a JWHL Second Team All-Star in 2019 and 2020 … Notched 53 points over her final two seasons in the JWHL, averaging over a point per game … Skated for the U18 Team New Brunswick squad that won gold at the 2019 Atlantic Challenge Cup … Captained Team Atlantic that competed at the National Women's U18 Championship … Also played soccer, tennis and ringette.
 
Tamara Giaquinto (Toronto, Ont./Appleby College)
 
BEFORE BOSTON UNIVERSITY
Skated for Appleby College, where she captained the team as a senior … Played for the Canadian Under-18 Team that claimed silver at the 2020 IIHF U18 Women's World Championship … Won gold with Team Ontario Red at the 2019 National Women's U18 Championship … Scored a goal for Canada against the United States at the 2019 U18 Summer Series … Invited to Hockey Canada's U18 conditioning camp in 2019 … Won a provincial title with the Brampton Canadettes Midget AA team as a sophomore … Scored two shootout goals during the 2018 Esso Cup and helped Brampton advance to the third-place game … Finished that tournament with six assists, which ranked second among all skaters … Also played soccer.
 
Lacey Martin (Minnetonka, Minnesota/Minnetonka)
 
BEFORE BOSTON UNIVERSITY
Played four seasons of varsity hockey at Minnetonka High School … Notched 50 points (28g, 22a) as a senior en route to being named Team MVP … Was a two-time All-Lake Conference selection (2019, 2020) … Helped lead Minnetonka to a third-place finish in the state tournament as a junior and as a senior … Selected to USA Hockey's U18 Select Camp each of the last two years … Named to the 2019 MSHSL All-Tournament Team … Scored 30 goals and added 22 assists for 52 points as a junior … Tallied 17 points (5g, 12a) as a sophomore and 11 points (3g, 8a) as a rookie.
 
Clare O'Leary (Hingham, Mass./Tabor Academy)
 
BEFORE BOSTON UNIVERSITY
Skated for Tabor Academy as well as East Coast Wizards … Helped Tabor win the Patsy K. Odden Tournament in 2018 and 2019 … Part of East Coast Wizards squads that qualified for each of the last two USA Hockey Girl's Under-19 Tournaments … Invited to 2017 USA Hockey National Development Camp … Won the U14 national championship with the Wizards … Also captained the tennis team, played soccer and ran track at Tabor.
 
Julia Shaunessy (Marshfield, Mass./Tabor Academy)
 
BEFORE BOSTON UNIVERSITY
Played four years of varsity hockey at Tabor Academy, captaining the squad as a senior … Earned First Team All-ISL and First Team All-NESPAC honors in each of her final two seasons … Skated at USA Hockey Nationals each of the last three years … Also chosen for the USA Hockey Elite 66 Camp … Won a U14 Tier I national title with the Bay State Breakers as a freshman … Selected as Tabor's Freshman Class Female Athlete of the Year … Also played four seasons of varsity soccer and lacrosse at Tabor, captaining both teams as a senior … Was named as a "Player to Watch" by the New England Lacrosse Journal ahead of the 2020 season.
