Shattenkirk will become the 10th Terrier to get his name on the trophy and it marks the fourth time in five years that a BU alumnus is on the Cup-winning team. An All-American on the 2009 national championship team, he is the fourth BU player to win both an NCAA title and a Stanley Cup title, joining classmate Nick Bonino, Chris Drury and Jay Pandolfo.

Bonino and Mike Sullivan won back-to-back titles with the Pittsburgh Penguins in 2016 and 2017. In total, this marks the 14th time that a Terrier is celebrating a Cup title, as Pandolfo and Scott Young also won the Cup on two occasions. Alex Chiasson won the Cup with the Washington Capitals in 2018 and this is actually the fifth straight year that BU is represented on the championship team as Keith Tkachuk was a scout for last season's St. Louis Blues squad.
Shattenkirk played all 25 games in the playoffs for the Lightning, recording 13 points on three goals and 10 assists. Two of his goals came in the Final and both were game-winners, including an overtime tally in Game 4 on Friday to give Tampa Bay a 3-1 lead in the series. He is just the second blueliner from BU to win the Cup, joining Joe DiPenta, who was on the 2007 Anaheim Ducks.A three-year standout at BU, Shattenkirk served as team captain his junior season. He finished with 78 points (18g, 60a) in 121 games before signing an entry-level contract with the Colorado Avalanche, who selected him in the first round of the 2007 NHL Draft. In 10 NHL seasons, the New Rochelle, N.Y., native has appeared in 679 games and accumulated 83 goals and 300 assists for 383 points.
