Terriers Set for Road Trip to RPI and Union

The Boston University women's ice hockey team will hit the road for a pair of games this weekend, facing RPI on Friday night at 6 before taking on Union on Saturday at 3.

TERRIER TIDBITS
  • This weekend's games will be the Terriers' first contests against non-league foes since Nov. 19, 2019, when the Terriers defeated Harvard, 6-2, at Walter Brown Arena.
  • BU went 5-0-0 against non-conference opponents during the 2019-20 season, including a 2-1 season-opening victory at Union on Oct. 6, 2019.
  • Junior Julia Nearis has notched a point in all five games this season, posting three goals and four assists for seven points.
  • Senior Courtney Correia leads the Terriers in goals (4), assists (5) and points (9) through five games this year.
  • She is first in Hockey East in both points and assists, and is second in the league in goals.
  • BU has averaged the fewest penalty minutes in the nation so far this season at 4.40 PIMs per game.
  • The Terriers have taken just 11 penalties for 22 minutes this year.

SERIES HISTORY WITH RPI

  • The Terriers and Engineers have split their seven meetings at 3-3-1.
  • BU last faced the Engineers on Oct. 11, 2013, when the Terriers left Houston Field House with a 2-2 tie.
  • The Terriers earned a 3-2 win on Oct. 12, 2012 and have been victorious in three of their last five meetings with RPI.
  • BU has yet to earn a win at Houston Field House, going 0-3-1.

SCOUTING THE ENGINEERS

  • RPI is 2-4-0 after sweeping a home-and-home series with Union, the Terriers' opponent on Saturday, last weekend.
  • The Engineers won the first game, 4-0, before defeating the Dutchwomen by a 9-2 score the second day.
  • Two of the Engineers' four losses have been in overtime.
  • Junior Marah Wagner leads RPI with six points thanks to three goals and a team-best three assists.
  • Wagner is one of four Engineers with three assists this season.
  • Freshman Audrey McCutcheon notched three of her team-leading four goals in the 9-2 win over Union on Oct. 9.
  • Junior goaltender Amanda Rampado has started all six games for RPI, posting a .935 save percentage and a 2.16 goals-against average.
  • She made 53 saves during the weekend sweep of Union.

STATE OF THE UNION

  • The Dutchwomen enter the weekend with a 2-4-1 record, though they are 0-4-1 in their last five games.
  • That includes a loss and a tie against Mercyhurst this past weekend.
  • Union will host Providence on Friday.
  • Sophomore Celeste Beaudoin leads the team with five points thanks to two goals and a team-high three assists.
  • Two others - junior Emily King and senior Cassidy Michalicka - also have three assists.
  • Freshman Maddie Suitor leads Union with three goals.
  • Sophomore goaltender Olivia Rinzel has started five games for Union, going 2-1-1 with an .865 save percentage and a 3.11 goals-against average.
  • Freshman goaltender Sophie Matsoukas has started in two of her three appearances, including last Friday's 5-0 loss against Mercyhurst.

HISTORY WITH THE DUTCHWOMEN

  • BU is 11-0-0 against Union, including a 6-0-0 mark in Schenectady.
  • The Terriers' last two games against the Dutchwomen have been at Messa Rink - a 2-1 win in 2019 and a 3-2 overtime victory in 2013.
