BU Falls in Shootout at New Hampshire after Skating to 3-3 Tie
October 9, 2021 | Women's Ice Hockey
DURHAM, N.H. - The Boston University women's ice hockey team skated to a 3-3 tie with New Hampshire after regulation and overtime, but the Wildcats won the shootout to earn an extra point in the Hockey East standings on Saturday afternoon at Whittemore Center.
Seniors Courtney Correia (1g, 1a) and Mackenna Parker (2a) each had multiple points while freshmen Kylie Roberts and Christina Vote both lit the lamp for the second time this season. Senior Alex Allan, sophomore Madison Cardaci and junior Julia Nearis all added an assist.
Senior Kate Stuart made 30 saves for BU (3-0-1, 3-0-1 HE) as the Terriers finished the season series with UNH (0-3-1, 0-3-1 HE).
HOW IT HAPPENED
- UNH opened the scoring just 4:37 into the proceedings, but the Terriers responded just 1:16 later. Allan sent a well-placed shot towards goal and Vote deftly redirected it past Nicky Harnett (17 saves).
- Roberts extended the lead to 2-1 at 3:06 of the second stanza. Parker cycled the puck to Correia, who curled into the left circle and uncorked a shot on cage. The rebound came right to Roberts in front of the net and she cashed in for her second goal of the season.
- The Wildcats scored at 16:54 of the period to send the teams to the final 20 minutes tied at 2-2.
- Correia regained the lead for BU just 3:22 into the third. Cardaci blocked a shot and quickly played the puck to space for Parker. The senior raced up the right wing, skated past a defender and found Correia, who snuck past a Wildcat defender and got to the front of the net to connect with the pass and knock the puck past Harnett.
- UNH equalized again at the 6:53 mark.
- Stuart made a terrific pair of stops late in the period to help force overtime.
- Correia drew a penalty at the 2:15 mark of overtime to set up a 4-on-3 power play, but BU was unable to capitalize.
- In the shootout, BU went first but did not find a way past Harnett on all three of its attempts, with UNH scoring on its second try to claim the additional point.
