Terriers, Huskies to Clash Tuesday Night on NESN

BOSTON – Coming off an 85-61 win over Gordon College, the Boston University men's basketball team will open a five-game road trip at Northeastern on Tuesday night with the NESN broadcast slated for 7 p.m.

TERRIER TIDBITS
  • Graduate student Javante McCoy went a combined 7-for-14 3FG over the first two games and leads BU at 19.0 ppg. Currently owner of 1,359 points, he just needs nine more to move past Rashad Bell ('05) for the No. 13 all-time spot in the BU record book.
  • Graduate student Sukhmail Mathon tied a personal-best with 14 rebounds against the Fighting Scots and currently leads the Terriers at 12.5 rpg with 11.0 ppg.
  • Senior Walter Whyte is the third Terrier in double figures at 12.0 ppg and is just 68 points away from becoming the 40th Terrier to reach the 1,000-point milestone.
  • Junior Garrett Pascoe is tied with McCoy at 3.0 apg and is averaging a personal-best 8.0 ppg and 3.0 rpg.
  • BU is averaging 44.3 FG% and 38.3 3FG% while holding opponents to 43.9 FG% and 36.0 3FG%.
SCOUTING NORTHEASTERN
  • Selected No. 2 in the CAA preseason poll after earning a share of the regular season title last year, the Huskies are off to an 0-2 start with 65-58 loss at Colgate and 83-64 defeat at Georgia State.
  • The Huskies have five newcomers, including four transfers. 
  • 6-foot-7 forward Chris Doherty averages 14.0 ppg, 7.5 rpg and 3.5 apg, while 6-foot-7 guard Jahmyl Telfort averages 14.0 ppg.
  • NU is averaging 41.6 FG% and 34.8 3FG% while holding opponents to 44.7 FG% and 40.8 3FG%.
  • The Huskies have averaged 15.5 turnovers, 1.5 less than the Terriers, but have only forced 15 turnovers total so far, compared to BU's 37 combined forced turnovers.
SERIES HISTORY
  • The teams are tied, 74-74, in a series that dates back to 1920-21.
  • 13 of the last 14 meetings have been decided by eight points or fewer. Eight of those games were decided by one possession or required overtime for a victor to emerge.
  • The 2020-21 season marked the first time since 2005-06 that the teams did not face off, as BU only battled Patriot League competition.
  • In the last meeting in 2019 at Case Gym, the Huskies prevailed, 72-67, to avenge the Terriers' 77-74 victory at Matthews Arena in 2018.
