BOSTON – After winning its last two games against Holy Cross, the Boston University men's basketball team will continue Patriot League action at Colgate over the weekend with both contests starting at 1 p.m. CBS Sports Network will carry Saturday's matchup, and ESPN+ will air the second on Sunday.
During the weekend, Patriot League men's and women's basketball student-athletes will wear special shooting shirts adorned with a Black fist surrounded by 10 stars to represent each of the League's member institutions and the phrase "Pursuing Anti-Racism." The shirt's back will feature the words "Unity, Respect, Activism" to signify the values under which the League will continue to pursue the goal of Anti-Racism. The decision to develop the logo and the shooting shirt is based on widespread support from the student-athletes as a symbol of their dedication to supporting Black and Brown communities. In addition to the shooting shirts, messaging from the Patriot League Anti-Racism Commission will be displayed in arenas, voiced during game broadcasts and on the League's social media channels.
The Terriers (5-6, 5-6 PL) defeated the Crusaders twice (86-68, 78-69) by shooting an impressive 59.2 percent from the field and 51.5 3FG% while holding Holy Cross to 41.2 FG%. Senior
Javante McCoy led the offense at 17.0 ppg by shooting 63.2 FG% and averaging 4.0 apg. Overall, he owns a team-high 16.6 ppg ahead of junior
Walter Whyte, who's second in both scoring (14.6 ppg) and rebounding (6.7 rpg). Both Whyte and senior
Sukhmail Mathon own two double-doubles this season with Mathon the third Terrier averaging double figures at 10.5 ppg alongside a team-high 7.7 rpg. The bench played a key role as well, contributing a combined 50 points in the two wins and will be needed again, as the Raiders are outscoring opponents by 19.0 ppg.
Patriot League Preseason Player of the Year Jordan Burns leads Colgate at 17.9 ppg, 5.3 apg and 1.7 spg, while Keegan Records owns 8.5 ppg and a team-high 7.5 rpg. Jack Ferguson is second in points at 13.1 ppg by shooting 52.1 3FG% and 93.8 FT% with Nelly Cummings (12.8 ppg) and Tucker Richardson (10.9 ppg) also reach double figures in points. Overall, the Raiders are averaging 9.2 made 3-pointers per game and are shooting 49.3 FG% while holding opponents to 39.7 FG%. Colgate has won its last eight games, including four straight against Holy Cross, and have posted three 40+ point wins this season.
The Terriers will see their first action on Cotterell Court since capturing the Patriot League title last year in a 64-61 thriller on March 11. BU held Colgate to a season-low four 3-pointers on 22 attempts to claim the win. The Raiders avenged the loss by winning both games at BU back in January, 86-79 and 89-45. BU leads the all-time series, 29-26, and is 2-2 in the last four visits to Hamilton, New York.
