February 20, 2021 | Women's Ice Hockey
BOSTON - The Boston University women's ice hockey team suffered a 2-0 setback to No. 6 Boston College on Saturday at Walter Brown Arena.
BU (6-5-0, 6-5-0 HE) honored its five seniors - Rachel Allen, Jesse Compher, Nara Elia, Corinne Schroeder and Kristina Schuler - prior to puck drop on Saturday. Those five Terriers have helped BU win 65 games in four seasons, including the 2019 Beanpot championship.
The two teams remained scoreless through two periods before BC (14-4-0, 14-4-0 HE) scored twice in a span of 18 seconds to take a 2-0 lead at 7:39 of the final frame.
Schroeder was sharp for the Terriers, recording a season-high 29 saves. She made several spectacular stops throughout the contest, but her best save came late in the third period when she denied Kelly Browne on a breakaway bid to keep the Terriers in the game.
Compher had the Terriers' best chance of the third period when she earned a breakaway chance of her own, but her shot went just over the crossbar. BU also had sustained 5-on-3 time late in the game, but the Terriers were unable to cash in against Abigail Levy (35 saves) and a strong BC penalty kill.
BU pulled Schroeder in favor of an extra attacker and generated some chances in the final minutes, but BC held on to split the weekend series.
