BOSTON – In the final home game of the regular season, the Boston University men's basketball team will host Holy Cross on Wednesday night with the ESPN+ broadcast set to begin at 7 p.m.
Prior to the tip-off, the Terriers will recognize seniors
Sukhmail Mathon,
Javante McCoy and
Andrew Petcash, who helped BU claim its first conference tournament title in nine years this past March. Owner of three double-doubles this season, Mathon is having his best year yet, averaging 11.4 ppg and a team-high 7.9 rpg while shooting 57.4 FG%. McCoy leads BU at 15.6 ppg and 2.3 apg while ranking No. 18 all-time in the record book at 1,235 points. Petcash has hit 87 career 3-pointers with a 37.3 3-point field goal shooting percentage and came up big defensively in the semifinals last year with a personal-best four steals.
Junior
Walter Whyte is second on the team in both scoring (13.4 ppg) and rebounding (6.5 rpg) for the Terriers, who are averaging 69.7 ppg and 42.9 FG% while holding opponents to 76.2 ppg and 47.8 FG%. BU has been stellar at the free throw line, ranking 47th nationally at 75.4 FG% and coming close to the program-record of 76.4 FT% set in 1982-83.
With just three regular season games remaining, the Terriers will look to bounce back following this past weekend's series defeat at now 11-1 Colgate. They won four of their previous five games before facing the Raiders and currently lead Holy Cross, 3-2, with two consecutive victories. In the five previous matchups against the Crusaders, junior
Jack Hemphill, junior
Jonas Harper and redshirt-freshman
Daman Tate are averaging an identical 8.2 ppg with Tate also adding 6.0 rpg.
After falling at BU, 86-68, and then dropping a 78-69 home decision last Wednesday to the Terriers, the Crusaders posted a split against Army with both home teams winning. Holy Cross rebounded from a 69-65 loss with a dominating 67-51 performance. Gerrale Gates leads the Crusaders at 16.4 ppg and 7.6 rpg, while Austin Butler is averaging 15.1 ppg and 9.0 rpg. Overall, Holy Cross is averaging 69.6 ppg and 43.5 FG% with opponents averaging 76.1 ppg and 46.4 FG%.
