BOSTON – Junior goaltender Kate Stuart stopped all 24 shots she faced to earn her second career shutout and help lead the Boston University women's ice hockey team to a 6-0 win over Merrimack on Friday afternoon at Walter Brown Arena.
 
BU (3-3-0, 3-3-0 HE) scored two shorthanded goals and added a power-play tally as part of its second home win of the year. Junior Courtney Correia lit the lamp twice, including the opening goal, and added an assist for a three-point night. Three other Terriers recorded two points apiece, including junior Kaleigh Donnelly and senior co-captain Jesse Compher, who each collected a goal and an assist to help hand Merrimack (1-12-0, 1-12-0 HE) its 11th straight defeat. Junior Emma Wuthrich also secured two assists for her third career multi-point effort.

Freshman Lacey Martin scored a highlight-reel goal for her first collegiate marker and was one of three Terrier rookies to collect their first collegiate point, as Catherine Foulem and Julia Shaunessy each notched an assist. Junior Mackenna Parker scored her second goal of the season while classmate Alex Allan and freshman Andi Calderone added one assist apiece.
 
Stuart shined on Friday, as she and the Terrier penalty killers combined to hold Merrimack 0-for-8 on the power play, including two 5-on-3 advantages in the third period. This was Stuart's second straight shutout at Walter Brown, as she made 17 saves in her last home start, a 2-0 win over New Hampshire on Feb. 16, 2020.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED

• BU controlled the early action, building a 6-2 advantage in shots on goal midway through the first period.  
• Correia got the Terriers on the board with a nifty breakaway goal, going forehand to backhand to beat Merrimack goalie Emma Gorski (30 saves) with 8:41 left in the first period. Donnelly and Wuthrich provided the helpers on Correia's first goal of the season.
• Martin then stole the show with an impressive first goal as a Terrier. She dangled around a defender and then went short side to lift the puck over Gorski and increase BU's lead to 2-0 with 17:17 left in the second stanza.
• BU extended its lead to 3-0 thanks to a shorthanded goal by Donnelly with 8:13 to go in the middle frame. Correia won a defensive-zone faceoff forward and Donnelly won the loose puck before skating in alone on Gorski, who made the initial save but was unable to stop Donnelly from converting the rebound.
• Correia made it 4-0 with a power play strike with just 1:02 remaining in the second. 
• Compher wasted little time at the start of the third period, scoring shorthanded just 11 seconds into the final stanza to make it 5-0.
• Parker closed out the scoring when she banged home a rebound off a Compher shot at 13:46 of the third.
• Stuart stoned Merrimack's Dominika Laskova with 2:22 to play to preserve her shutout.

GAME NOTES

• The six-goal win was the largest for the Terriers since they defeated BC, 6-0, on Dec. 6, 2019.
• The Terriers have scored six goals in each of their last three wins over Merrimack.
• BU scored two shorthanded goals in a game for the first time since Feb. 9, 2019, when Compher and Sammy Davis accomplished that feat in a 7-1 win over Holy Cross.
• Eleven different Terriers recorded a point.
• Correia now leads the Terriers with seven points on two goals and a team-high five assists.
• Compher has lit the lamp in all three games she has played this season; her three goals leads the team.
• Compher led the Terriers with seven shots on goal as BU outshot the Warriors, 36-24.
