Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Terriers Fade in Second Half at La Salle, 10-9

PHILADELPHIA – Visiting La Salle for one final non-conference game, the Boston University women's lacrosse team took a four-goal advantage at the half, but saw its command vanquished in the closing frame as it fell, 10-9, to the Explorers Monday afternoon at McCarthy Stadium.

Holding an 8-4 grip heading into the break, the Explorers turned the tide to start the second half with a 5-0 run to take the lead with 15:09 to play. Jennifer Barry tied the game up two minutes later, but the Explorers regained the lead with 6:28 remaining and held off the Terriers to steal the win.

How It Happened
  • Makenzie Irvine put the Terriers on the board two minutes into action before Jennifer Barry dodged her way from the top of the crease to make it 2-0 at the five-minute mark.
  • Claire Gola beat the keeper with a rope into the top shelf before Lauren Kaye found Emily Vervlied right in front of the crease, as the Terriers rolled to a 4-1 edge 10 minutes in.
  • Kaye provided another highlight reel assist, this time finding Bridget McCarthy to make it a 5-2 game with 7:50 left in the half.
  • Ava Barry went for back-to-back unassisted goals in a four-minute span before Irvine added her second of the day, sending the Terriers into the locker room with an 8-4 advantage.
  • La Salle started the second half with a 5-0 run to take its first lead, 9-8, with 15:09 to play.
  • Jennifer Barry worked a woman-up situation to knot the score, but the Explorers slipped in the game-winning goal with just over six minutes remaining.
Game Notes
  • BU won the first five draw controls of the game, while Jennifer Barry's nine draw controls matched La Salle's total for the game.
  • Arielle Hammer played all 60 minutes in net for the second straight game and matched a career high with six saves.
  • BU's defense limited the explorers to just two shots through the first 20 minutes.
  • The Terriers had their best performance on clear attempts this season, going 16-for-17.
  • BU went 0-for-4 on free position shots.
