BRIGHTON, Mass. – The Boston University softball team wrapped up its season-opening nine-game road trip in impressive fashion with a 5-0 victory at crosstown rival Boston College on Thursday afternoon.
With their first shutout against the Eagles (5-8) since 2012, the Terriers improve to 8-1. Senior
Ali DuBois (7-0) tallied eight strikeouts to hold BC to just three hits after the ACC school totaled 30 hits over three wins against UMass Lowell, UMass and Bryant.

Jen Horita provided the offensive spark in the third with a lead-off double and was joined by sophomore
Caitlin Coker and junior
Aliyah Huerta-Leipner in recording two hits apiece. Besides catching DuBois' fourth shutout of the season, sophomore
Audrey Sellers delivered an RBI single and two key sacrifice bunts with senior
Patricia Dun and junior
Nicole Amodio also collecting an RBI.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- DuBois and Susannah Anderson (3-5) combined for five strikeouts through the first two innings.
- Horita doubled down the left field line to start the third for the game's first hit before reaching second on Sellers' sac bunt and Dn's RBI grounder.
- Coker then singled through the left side and scored on a throwing error from Anderson that was was followed by Huerta-Leipner's RBI single.
- Amodio started the fourth with her fifth hit-by-pitch of the season and watched freshman pinch runner Kate Pryor take second on Horita's sac bunt and score on Sellers' single to left for the 4-0 advantage.
- The Eagles broke up DuBois' no-hit bid with a one-out single in the bottom of the fourth, but Sellers caught BC trying to steal second.
- After earning a lead-off walk, Keleher advanced to third on Huerta-Leipner's double and scored on Amodio's grounder to extend the lead to 5-0.
- The Eagles tried to mount a rally in the sixth with back-to-back one-out singles, but DuBois ended the threat with ain infield grounder and line out to left.
- DuBois then shut down BC in the seventh with back-to-back swinging strikeouts for the team win.
GAME NOTES
- DuBois gained sole possession of third place in the Patriot League record book at 67 wins and just needs two more to tie for second.
- With eight strikeouts, DuBois moved to No. 4 all-time at BU and tied-for-seventh in the PL with 546 total.
- DuBois also needs four more shutouts to tie the conference record of 31.
- Horita became the 10th Terrier to record a double this season and the eighth to earn a multi-hit performance.
- The Terriers had their first shutout at BC since claiming an identical 5-0 win in 2009.

- The Terriers will get to play their first home game in nearly two years when they host former America East rival Stony Brook on Saturday (March 20) with the doubleheader set to begin at 1 p.m.
