The Boston University cross country teams will compete at the 2021 Patriot League Men's & Women's Spring Cross Country Championships on Friday at Lehigh. The women's race will take place at 1 p.m., followed by the men's race at 2.
BU is the defending champion on the women's side and will return two Second Team All-Patriot League runners from that 2019 squad in sophomore Sophia Jacobs-Townsley and senior Corinne Batsu. Jacobs-Townsley was the 2019 Outstanding Rookie of the Meet after she finished eighth, while Batsu was 13th.
In addition to Jacobs-Townsley and Batsu, Andrea Claeson is back after finishing 19th in 2019 to help BU secure the title as one of the Terriers' top five runners. Also back from that championship roster are senior Veronica Kriss and junior Angela Castronuovo.
Also running for the BU women on Friday will be junior Kalie Mathis, senior Madeline Bachmann and freshman Janelle Williams. All three will be making their Patriot League Championship debuts.
For the men, 2019 First Team All-Patriot League harrier Brett Davidson will lead a talented Terrier lineup that also returns sophomores Foster Malleck and Kevin Murphy, two harriers that finished in the top 30 to help BU take third as a team. Davidson is a two-time All-League honoree who has three top-30 finishes in championship events.
Seniors Logan Broedner and Jonathan Fierro will join Davidson as the Terrier upperclassmen competing on Friday. Sophomores Charlie Hamel and Mike Hagen will make their Patriot League Championship debuts, as will freshman Matthew Mason.
The top individual finisher in both races will automatically qualify for the NCAA Division I Men's and Women's Cross Country Championships, which will be held on March 15 in Stillwater, Oklahoma.
