CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Visiting crosstown rival Boston College, the Boston University women's tennis team battled to the end in a hard-fought 5-2 loss on Saturday afternoon.
Claiming the doubles point on a tiebreaker and capturing three of four singles points in straight sets, the Eagles improve to 4-3, while the Terriers drop to 1-1.

Kaitlin Tan had a standout performance, winning at No. 3 doubles with sophomore
Sofia Kostirko, and more impressively defeating Marice Aguiar, the nation's No. 25 recruit according to TennisRecruiting.com. Senior
Katya Martens also defeated a five-star recruit in Sophia Edwards in straight sets.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Tan and Kostirko posted a 6-2 victory in the No. 3 slot, while the Eagles came out ahead at line 2 against freshman Victoria Carlsten and sophomore Erica Di Battista, 6-3, at line 2.
- Ranked No. 25 nationally as a duo, Yufei Long and Kylie Wilcox edged seniors Lily Burchell and Emily Kim, 7-6 to grab the 1-0 lead.
- The Eagles extended the lead to 3-0, as No. 76 Long earned a 6-1, 6-3 victory in the top match against Kim and Wilcox avoided a third set against Carlsten with a second-set tiebreaker, 6-3, 7-6, at line 2.
- Ranked as high as No. 32 in 2019 by TennisRecruiting.com, Tan earned BU's first point by defeating Agular, 7-5, 6-7, 6-3, in the No. 3 slot.
- Senior Lily Burchell rallied to force a third set but ultimately fell to Laura Lopez in a 6-0, 3-6, 6-1 decision at line 4.
- Martens dispitched Edwards at line 5 with a 6-2, 7-5 victory.
- Kostirko battled Hailey Wilcox in the final match at line 6 with the Eagle holding on for a 6-4, 6-4 win.
