The Boston University men's lacrosse team will continue its 2021 season on Friday night when the Terriers host Brown at Nickerson Field. Opening faceoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
Due to institutional policy regarding visitors on campus, spectators are not allowed at any athletic event during the spring semester. For BU Athletics outdoor facilities, this restriction includes all areas surrounding the venue. Please be advised that any visitors who gather to watch an event will be asked to leave the area by game management personnel.
The Terriers were originally scheduled to host Holy Cross on Friday, but the Crusaders canceled their season earlier this month. This will be the first-ever meeting between BU and Brown, and it will also be the first game for the Bears since March 8, 2020.
BU will honor its 12-member Class of 2021 prior to the game. Sean Christman, Michael Doxie, Nicholas Ellerton, Matt Korn, Andrew Martin, Nick Mohler, Tommy Nook, Kevin O'Hara, Kevin Snyder, Christian Trahan, Andrew Volk and Phil Wies have led the Terriers to three Patriot League Tournaments and have won 28 games since the start of the 2018 campaign.
BU is a top-10 team in the country in both riding and clearing, as BU owns the sixth-lowest opponent clearing percentage (.788) and the sixth-highest clearing percentage (.893) in the country. Part of that success on the ride comes from the Terriers' ability to force turnovers. They rank 12th in the NCAA in caused turnovers per game (9.0).
Sophomore Roy Meyer is first in the Patriot League and tied for sixth in the nation with 19 caused turnovers. He ranks ninth in the nation and second in the Patriot League in caused turnovers per game, averaging 2.11 takeaways per contest. Meyer has recorded three caused turnovers in each of his last two appearances.
Brown finished 2020 with a 3-2 record. Senior Ryan Aughavin is the leading returning point producer, having recorded 18 points (11g, 7a) in 2020. Senior Luke McCaleb is the leading returning goal scorer, having notched 12 goals as part of his 17-point campaign, while junior Darian Cook tallied a team-best eight assists last year.
Sophomore Matt Gunty won 46 of the 68 faceoffs he took last year (67.6%) and led Brown with 19 ground balls. Junior Luke Gaydos led Brown with 10 caused turnovers in 2020. Senior Phil Goss started all five games last year for Brown, posting a 9.83 goals-against average and a .559 save percentage.
