Claeson, Gerstenbacher Advance to Finals at PL Championship

WEST POINT, NY - The Boston University women's track & field team finished Day 1 of the Patriot League Championships at Army West Point on Friday. 
 
The day was highlighted by a several Terriers advancing to Saturdays finals. In the sprints, Cecelia Gerstenbacher qualified for the finals of the 100m dash by finishing second in the semis with a time of 12.20. She also qualified for the finals of the 200m dash with a time of 25.24.
 
In distance runs, a trio of Terriers advanced to the finals of the 1500m. Madeline Bachmann (4:41.28), Andrea Claeson (4:43.22) and Meghan Convery (4:45.43) all qualified to Saturday's main event. 
 
Corinne Batsu had a great performance in the 10,000m run, earning four points for the Terriers by finishing fifth with a time of 36.08.15 and shattering her personal best. 
 
Competing in the heptathlon, Gillian Morrison is in fourth place with three events to go on Saturday.
 
In the final event of the Day 1, the 4x800m relay team of Stephanie Forbes, Janelle Williams, Addie Marple and Stephanie Casaletto finished seventh with a time of 9:35.74 to earn BU two points. 
 
NOTABLE PERFORMERS - WOMEN
  • In the first event of the meet, Corinne Batsu had a great performance in the 10,000m run, finishing fifth with a personal-best time of 36:08.15 to earn BU four points. 
  • Cecelia Gerstenbacher qualified for the finals of the 100m dash by finishing second in the semis with a time of 12.20. Gerstenbacher also qualified for the finals of the 100m dash with a time of 25.24.
  • In the field, Emma Kowalksi finished eighth in the hammer throw with a toss of 50.29 meters (165'). 
  • Arden Creson finished ninth in the long jump with a jump of 5.41m (17' 9"). 
  • Lauren Sikoski finished 10th in the pole vault with a vault of 3.45 meters (11' 3.75"). 
 
STANDINGS THROUGH DAY 1
• With six events scored, the BU women are in seventh place with 7 points behind leader Navy with 74 points, Army (66), Bucknell (35.5), Holy Cross (20.5), Lafayette (15) and Lehigh (11).

STILL TO COME
Saturday will feature a full day of events beginning with the final three events of the heptathlon at 10:45 a.m. and concluding with the women's 4x400m final at 5:30p.m.
