August 13, 2021

BOSTON - The Boston University men's ice hockey team has finalized its leadership group for the 2021-22 season, with senior Logan Cockerill to captain the Terriers for a second straight year.

In addition to Cockerill remaining as captain, senior Ty Amonte and graduate student Max Kaufman will serve as assistant captains for the second year in a row while junior Alex Vlasic will also be an assistant captain.

Cockerill and Kaufman are back with the Terriers this season after taking advantage of an extra year of eligibility granted by the NCAA due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Amonte was granted a medical redshirt after missing all of the 2019-20 season due to injury.

"I'm really excited about our leadership group this season," head coach Albie O'Connell said. "Logan, Max and Ty demonstrated great leadership abilities last year during an unprecedented season and I'm confident they will continue to move the program forward. Alex is a welcome addition to this group and he certainly deserves this honor."

Cockerill will wear a letter on his jersey for a third straight year. Last season he notched 10 points (5g, 5a) in 12 games, including a career-best three assists in a 3-2 overtime win at UConn. In 104 career games with the Terriers, Cockerill has recorded 19 goals and 27 assists for 46 points.

Kaufman was an assistant captain in his first season at BU in 2020-21. The Vermont transfer tallied eight points (1g, 7a) in eight games and was a Hockey East All-Academic selection for a fourth straight year. In his four total seasons in the league, Kaufman has scored 16 goals and added 27 assists for 43 points in 109 contests.

Amonte showed great leadership as an assistant captain last year despite missing all but two games due to injury. In his last full season (2018-19), Amonte tallied eight goals and and eight assists for 16 points. He has notched 27 points (15g, 12a) in 75 career games, including a goal and an assist in a 6-4 win over Providence last season.

Vlasic has been fantastic in his first two campaigns with the Terriers. The versatile defender has notched 12 points (3g, 9a) in 50 games, including career highs in goals (3), assists (5) and points (8) during last year's shortened season. Vlasic has yet to miss a game for BU and was a Hockey East All-Academic selection in 2020-21.
