No. 10 Terriers Picked Second in Hockey East Preseason Poll
September 27, 2021 | Men's Ice Hockey
The No. 10 Boston University men's ice hockey team was picked to finish second in Hockey East by the league's head coaches, as announced in Monday's preseason poll.
In addition, BU is ranked 10th in both preseason national polls (USCHO.com, USA Hockey/USA Today) that were released on Monday. The Terriers finished last season at No. 11 in the USCHO.com poll and No. 12 in the USA Hockey rankings after posting a 10-5-1 record and earning the program's 37th NCAA Tournament appearance.
The Terriers earned 95 points and one first-place vote in the league poll, finishing seven points clear of third-place Boston College. Defending national champion UMass topped the poll with 107 points. Northeastern (86 points), Providence (75), UConn (66), UMass Lowell (58), New Hampshire (46), Merrimack (37), Maine (32) and Vermont (24) rounded out the poll.
BU returns 24 letter winners from last year's squad, including junior Jay O'Brien, who led the Terriers in goals (8) and points (16) in 2020-21. Eleven of the Terriers' top 12 scorers and all three goaltenders from a year ago will return for the program's 100th season. In addition, two of the five incoming freshmen were taken in the 2021 NHL Draft, with Tyler Boucher going 10th overall to the Ottawa Senators and Ty Gallagher selected in the seventh round by the Boston Bruins.
The Terriers will host Holy Cross in an exhibition contest on Saturday, Oct. 2, at Walter Brown Arena. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Fans can purchase tickets to that event by clicking here.
