Commesso Named to Richter Award Watch List

BOSTON - Sophomore Drew Commesso of the Boston University men's ice hockey team has been named to the watch list for the Mike Richter Award, given annually to the top goaltender in Division I men's hockey, the Hockey Commissioners Association announced on Thursday.
Commesso, who will join Team USA for the 2022 Winter Olympics at the end of the month, has played his best hockey of late. During the Terriers' current seven-game unbeaten streak, Commesso is 5-0-1 with a 1.46 goals-against average and a .950 save percentage. Overall, the Norwell, Mass., native is 9-7-3 in 20 starts with a .909 save percentage and a 2.59 goals-against average. In his one preliminary-round game for Team USA at the 2022 IIHF World Junior Championship, Commesso made 23 saves in a 3-2 win over Slovakia and was selected as his team's best player. This is the second straight season that Commesso has been selected to the watch list for the Richter Award.
BU will return to action on Friday when the Terriers begin a two-game series against Vermont at Agganis Arena. Puck drop on Friday is scheduled for 7 p.m., with the contest to be televised live on NESN+.
