Men's Basketball to Visit Navy in Tuesday Night PL Matchup

BOSTON – Making its first road trip of 2022, the Boston University men's basketball team will head south to Navy on Tuesday night for a 7 p.m. tip. 

The two teams enter the matchup battling for early position in the Patriot League standings with the fewest overall losses at four games apiece. BU opened conference play this past Saturday with a 63-61 home win over Bucknell, while the Midshipmen claimed a 70-56 win at Holy Cross.

TERRIER TIDBITS
  • Ranked No. 24 in the latest CollegeInsider.com Top 25 Mid-Major poll, BU is the first team in the Patriot League and D1 program in Massachusetts to reach 10 wins.
  • Graduate student Javante McCoy (17.1 ppg) tallied 17 points on Saturday to move to No. 7 all-time at BU with 1,561 career points.
  • Graduate student Sukhmail Mathon (13.6 ppg, 10.1 rpg) became the second alongside McCoy to earn PL Player of the Week honors this season after posting a personal-best 21 points and 18 rebounds against the Bison.
  • Mathon is the third Terrier to tally at least 20 points this season, joining McCoy and senior Walter Whyte (13.2 ppg, 6.7 rpg), who earned 10 points and eight rebounds after missing the previous eight games to injury.
  • BU ranks 42nd nationally with a positive rebound margin of 6.6 rpg and 69th in scoring defense at 63.9 ppg.
  • Averaging 68.7 ppg, the Terriers are shooting 44.1 FG% while holding teams to 43.0 FG%.
SCOUTING NAVY
  • While BU is 3-3 on the road following a 65-62 win at Dartmouth, the Midshipmen are 2-2 at home with 75-56 win over William & Mary and 89-40 victory against Washington (Md.). Their two losses came against Virginia Tech (77-57) and Towson (69-52).
  • After earning a 78-71 win at Georgetown last season, the Midshipmen opened this season with a 66-58 victory at then-No. 25 Virginia.
  • John Carter J. leads Navy at 13.4 ppg, while Greg Summers owns a team-high 5.8 rpg with 10.4 ppg.
  • Navy ranks 19th nationally in scoring defense (58.7 ppg), 55th in rebound margin (5.9 rpg) and 71st in FG% defense (39.8).
  • The Mids average 66.0 ppg while shooting 45.2 FG%.
SERIES HISTORY
  • BU leads the all-time series, 12-5, and will be facing Navy for the first time since winning at home in the 2020 PL quarterfinals, 69-63.
  • That game snapped a streak of 10 straight games with the road team winning in the rivalry.
  • The Terriers are a perfect 7-0 at Alumni Hall.
