Terriers to Host Johnson & Wales Monday Night

BOSTON – The Boston University men's basketball team will open a two-game homestand against Johnson & Wales at Case Gym Monday night with tip-off slated for 7 p.m.

The Terriers earned a split last week against a pair of Husky squads, earning a 72-63 win home victory over Northeastern before dropping an 86-57 decision at UConn.

TERRIER TIDBITS
  • BU will try to open 2-0 at home for the second consecutive season, matching a feat last accomplished during the 2000-01 and 2001-02 seasons.
  • Boosted by his 15th career double-double against Northeastern, graduate student Walter Whyte leads BU at 23.0 ppg and 8.0 rpg while shooting 59.3 percent from the field.
  • Both classmate Jonas Harper and junior Daman Tate are just below double figure scoring at 9.5 ppg and 9.0 ppg, respectively, while senior Nevin Zink is second in rebounding at 5.5 rpg.
  • Through two games, BU is shooting 36.5 FG% and 28.6 3FG% while holding opponents to 47.1 FG% and 38.6 3FG%.
SCOUTING JOHNSON & WALES
  • Playing their first game of the year, the Wildcats went 10-14 last season with an 8-9 record in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC).
  • JWU averaged 70.2 ppg and 40.6 FG% while holding opponents to 72.7 ppg and 43.0 FG%.
  • 2022 GNAC Rookie of the Year and 6-foot-4 guard Josh Zangerle JWU's top returning scorer at 18.0 ppg while adding 5.9 rpg and shooting 42.9 FG%. 6-foot-4 guard Bryan Davis averaged a team-high 12.3 rpg with 10.4 ppg last year. 
  • Both Zangerle and 6-foot-8 forward Jonah Phang (3.1 ppg, 3.8 rpg) were teammates of Terrier sophomore Malcolm Chimezie at Archbishop Stepinac H.S. in New York.
SERIES HISTORY
  • BU will face JWU for the first time in program history at the varsity level, as the freshman teams did meet back in the early 1970s.
  • The GNAC was formed back in 1995. BU faced JWU's fellow member, Norwich, nine times between 1921-1940.
