BU to Open Patriot League Play with Navy Friday Afternoon at The Roof

BOSTON – Following an extended holiday break, the Boston University men's basketball team will open its 10th Patriot League schedule by hosting Navy Friday afternoon with tip-off slated for 2 p.m. at Case Gym.

The contest is a rematch of last season's PL tournament semifinal thriller in which the host Midshipmen edged the Terriers in OT, 85-80. Both teams were picked to finish in the top four in the preseason poll and enter conference play tied for second with seven wins apiece.

TERRIER TIDBITS
  • BU is 4-0 at The Roof for its best start since 2016 after most recently collecting a 67-59 win over Dartmouth back on Dec. 13. The Terriers are seeking their first 5-0 start since 1996.
  • The Terriers have posted winning non-conference records in back-to-back regular seasons for the first time since 2003-04 and 2004-05.
  • BU has had nine players score in double figures with six accomplishing the feat multiple times.
  • Graduate student Walter Whyte leads BU at 14.5 ppg and 6.2 rpg. He ranks eighth in the program record book at 726 rebounds and 12th at 1,426 points.
  • Graduate student Jonas Harper is second at 9.5 ppg with a team-high 1.5 spg, while senior Nevin Zink (6.4 ppg) is second in rebounding at 4.9 rpg.
  • Senior Ethan Brittain-Watts (9.3 ppg) has heated up from behind the arc, shooting 15-of-22 (.622) over the last five games.
  • BU is averaging 69.3 ppg and 40.9 FG% while holding opponents to 66.6 ppg and 41.4 FG%.
SCOUTING NAVY
  • The Midshipmen are 2-5 on the road compared to their perfect 5-0 home mark that includes wins over Princeton (74-73) and Youngstown State (80-67).
  • Navy collected wins at William & Mary (74-59) and Towson (71-69 OT) with the most recent loss coming at VCU (74-52) on Dec. 21.
  • 6-foot-6 forward Tyler Nelson leads Navy at 13.3 ppg and 5.8 rpg while adding a team-high 13 steals. 
  • 6-foot-8 forward Daniel Deaver (9.8 ppg) averages a team-high 3.5 apg and is tied with Nelson at 5.8 rpg.
  • Navy is averaging 73.2 ppg and 48.2 FG% while holding opponents to 70.5 ppg and 44.6 FG%, respectively.
SERIES HISTORY
  • BU leads the all-time series, 12-8, that dates back to 1959.
  • The Terriers are 3-6 at home in the series compared to their 7-2 road mark.
  • Navy won all three meetings, last season, posting an 83-71 home win and 72-65 victory at Case Gym before prevailing in the conference tourney.
