Men's Basketball to Honor Senior Class, Host American Saturday Afternoon

BOSTON – After honoring six Terriers as part of the Senior Day festivities, the Boston University men's basketball team will face American on Saturday with tip-off set for 1 p.m.

The Terriers are looking to carry momentum from Wednesday's thrilling 75-74 win over Army, while the Eagles will enter the matchup trying to snap a four-game losing streak that includes a pair of two-point losses. 

TERRIER TIDBITS
  • Winner of six of its last seven contests, BU is currently in third place in the PL standings at 8-5, one game behind Navy and one game ahead of Army, Loyola and Lehigh. 
  • Senior Walter Whyte tallied a season-tying 21 points against the Black Knights to increase his scoring average to 13.3 ppg. 
  • Graduate student Javante McCoy (16.2 ppg) is 16th all-time in the PL with 1,743 points, while classmate Sukhmail Mathon (15.0 ppg, 10.2 rpg) is 13th in rebounds with 782.
  • BU will honor those three men along with Jonas Harper, Garrett Pascoe and Fletcher Tynen in the pregame ceremony.
  • Sophomore Daman Tate (4.3 ppg) has totaled 25 points over the last two games shooting a combined 5-of-6 from behind the arc.
  • Overall, the Terriers are averaging 70.3 ppg and 44.6 FG% while holding opponents to 66.3 ppg and 44.9 FG%.
SCOUTING THE EAGLES
  • The Eagles are 2-13 away from home, collecting wins at Mount St. Mary's (72-66 OT) and William & Mary (74-62).
  • Stacy Beckton Jr. averages a team-high 12.9 ppg with Colin Smalls close behind at 10.0 ppg.
  • Reigning PL Rookie of the Year Johnny O'Neil leads AU at 4.9 rpg and is averaging 8.6 ppg, highlighted by a 19-point performance against Colgate on Feb. 5.
  • Connor Nelson (7.6 ppg) netted a career-high 23 points against Loyola with the help of seven 3-pointers on Jan. 22.
  • AU is averaging 63.8 ppg and 44.9 FG% while holding teams to 73.0 ppg and 49.2 FG%.
SERIES HISTORY
  • The Terriers are 11-8 all-time after snapping a three-game losing streak at Bender Arena a month ago, 79-53.
  • In the last matchup, McCoy tallied 25 points, as BU committed just six turnovers while holding the Eagles to 38.9 FG%.
  • Two years ago in the Eagles' last visit to Case Gym, the Terriers rallied from an 18-point first half deficit for a 64-60 victory. 
  • BU will be seeking its first sweep over the Eagles since 2017.
