CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Boston University softball team concluded the Green & Gold Classic with a pair of walk-off home-run losses to Notre Dame and Charlotte on Saturday afternoon.
A day after edging the Terriers (0-4) with a two-out, two-run homer in the seventh, the 2021 NCAA regional finalist Fighting Irish (3-0) earned an 8-0 decision in six innings. BU then battled the host and Conference USA preseason favorite 49ers (4-0) to extra innings before ultimately coming up short in the ninth, 4-1.

Lizzy Avery (0-2) collected five strikeouts in her pitchers' duel with Charlotte's Lindsey Walljasper (3-0) that saw both teams allow just four hits apiece through eight innings. Senior
Emily Gant delivered an RBI triple for BU's lone run on the day, while graduate student
Marina Sylvestri recorded a hit in both contests.
GAME 1: Notre Dame 8, BU 0 (6 inn.)
HOW IT HAPPENED
- 2021 NFCA All-Region pitcher Alexis Holloway (2-0) started with two strikeouts for the Irish.
- Making her first appearance of the season in the circle for BU, senior Emily Gant (0-1) collected a strikeout but the Irish followed up with a pair of doubles and two-out RBI single to pull ahead, 2-0.
- Freshman Kennedy Ryman earned BU's first hit with a single up the middle in the second but ended up strand at first.
- Grant retired the side in the bottom half but ran into trouble in the third, giving up back-to-back singles.
- Notre Dame then hit.an RBI single and two-RBI double against junior Allison Boaz.
- Boaz and senior Julia Handfield kept ND from extending the lead in the fourth and fifth innings before Hollway hit a walk-off three-run homer in the sixth.
GAME 2: Charlotte 4, BU 1 (9 inn.)
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The 49ers struck first in the bottom half of the first by taking advantage of a single and walk with an RBI single against Avery.
- Sophomores Kayla Roncin and Lauren Keleher had two-out singles in the first and second, respectively, before being stranded at first.
- Keleher drew a walk in the fifth and scored on a two-out triple by Gant toward left center to tie the game, 1-1.
- The 49ers threatened in the fifth with a lead-off single and one-out wild pitch, but Avery got out of the jam by earning a fly out and infield pop up.
- BU had a great opportunity in the top of the seventh, as Sylvestri singled to right and took second on junior Audrey Sellers' sac bunt.
- The Terriers eventually had two runners in scoring position with two outs following senior Aliyah Huerta-Leipner's two-out walk and stolen base, but Walljasper got out of the jam on an infield pop up.
- BU would not get another Terrier on base and eventually fell on reigning C-USA Player of the Year Bailey Vannoy's walk-off three-run homer in the ninth.
