BOSTON – Continuing the challenging non-conference schedule, the Boston University softball team will remain down south and participate in No. 13 Georgia's three-day Red & Black Showcase.
The Terriers will first face Big 10 member Purdue on Friday (Feb. 18) at 1 p.m. and then meet the 2021 Women's College World Series participant Bulldogs at 6 p.m. BU will then battle Delaware at 10:30 a.m. and the Bulldogs again at 1 p.m. on Saturday (Feb. 19) before concluding the event with the Blue Hens on Sunday (Feb. 20) at 10:30 a.m.
TERRIER TIDBITS
- BU lost two games apiece to 2021 NCAA regional finalist Notre Dame and C-USA preseason favorite Charlotte last weekend in North Carolina with three of the games being decided in the seventh or extra innings.
- Two-time All-PL honoree and senior Nicole Amodio led BU with a two-run homer against Notre Dame and finished with three hits alongside sophomore Kayla Roncin, who recorded a double.
- Two-time All-PL member Emily Gant added a RBI triple that sent the second Charlotte game to extra innings.
- Junior Lizzy Avery held the 49ers to just one run in that last contest before allowing a three-run homer in the ninth for the 4-1 loss. She owns 13 strikeouts in 15.1 innings with an opposing batting average of .193.
- Classmate Allison Boaz posted seven strikeouts in 7.2 innings without allowing a walk in the circle.
- BU will be seeking its first win over a ranked opponent since upsetting No. 1 Oklahoma, 4-3, in 2018 in New Mexico.
- The Terriers last beat the SEC with a 5-0 NCAA victory over Auburn in 2009 and last beat the Big 10 in 2018 with a 3-0 victory over Michigan State.
SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS
Purdue (5-0)
Friday, 1 p.m.
- The Boilermakers are off to a strong start after beating East Carolina (2x), Coastal Carolina (2x) and Georgetown last weekend following an 18-26 performance last season in Big 10 action.
- Alex Echazarreta batted .438 with two of Purdue's 10 homers while collecting five RBIs and claiming 12 strikeouts in 10 innings of work for a 2-0 record plus 1.80 ERA.
- Kiara Dillon reached home plate eight times while batting .375.
- Mo Wimpee tallied 10 strikeouts in a team-high 12 innings of work while holding opponents to a .182 batting average and 2.25 ERA.
- Overall, Purdue is hitting .322 and holding opponents to .283.
- BU won the only meeting between the two programs, 8-6, in 2000 in North Carolina.
#13 Georgia (5-1)
Friday, 6 p.m. // Saturday, 1 p.m.
- The Bulldogs won five straight with two one-run wins over Minnesota following 7-6 (8 inn.) loss to UCF. They went 34-23 last season and went 5-0 in postseason to reach the WCWS.
- Savana Sikes batted .417 last week, while Sydney Cambley batted .357 with seven runs.
- Madison Kerpics (2-1, 0.93 ERA) owns 18 strikeouts in 15.0 innings of relief, holding batters to .200 average.
- Overall Georgia is hitting .261 while holding opponents to .230 with a 11-11 tie in extra-base hits.
- BU will meet Georgia for the first time in program history.
Delaware (3-1)
Saturday, 10:30 a.m. // Sunday, 10:30 a.m.
- The Blue Hens collected wins against Stetson, Indiana State and Georgia State before dropping the rematch with Stetson after reaching the CAA final last season and posting a 25-9 record.
- Halle Kisamore and Brooke Glanden batted an identical .455 with a combined five homers and eight RBIs.
- Graceyn Frost and Emily Winburn combined for 16 strikeouts in 21.2 innings of work against just three walks.
- Delaware overall batted .253 last weekend while holding opponents to a .202 batting average with a 12-8 advantage in runs scored.
- BU is 23-7 all-time and will be facing the Blue Hens for the first time since Delaware left the America East in the summer of 2001 for the CAA.
