TERRIER TIDBITS
- This weekend's series is pivotal in determining the Terriers' playoff position.
- BU needs just one point against Providence to clinch a finish no lower than sixth, which would ensure them a spot in the Hockey East quarterfinals.
- The Terriers also avoid the opening round if New Hampshire takes three points from Maine.
- BU can only finish as high as fifth and will be on the road for a quarterfinal contest.
- The Terriers rallied for an important two points in the league standings on Tuesday in a 3-2 overtime victory over Maine at Walter Brown.
- Sophomore Clare O'Leary and senior Courtney Correia each scored in the third period to tie the game, with Correia's equalizer coming with just 1:55 remaining in regulation.
- Sophomore Lacey Martin, who assisted on O'Leary's first goal of the season, notched the winner just 1:03 into overtime.
- Martin has recorded five points (2g, 3a) over her last three games.
- Juniors Julia Nearis (1g, 3a) and Nadia Mattivi (2g, 2a), both of whom assisted on Martin's winner, have each secured four points over the last three tilts.
SERIES HISTORY
- BU is 31-16-3 all-time against Providence, though the Terriers are only 10-13-2 against the Friars at Schneider Arena.
- They did earn that 10th win earlier this season, though, thanks to a 2-1 triumph over PC on Oct. 31, 2021.
- Sophomore Catherine Foulem and freshman Christina Vote both scored in the October win over the Friars, with sophomore Clare O'Leary assisting on both strikes.
- Senior Kate Stuart made 28 saves to preserve the one-goal victory.
- The Terriers have allowed just 1.4 goals per game to Providence in the last five regular-season games.
SCOUTING THE FRIARS
- Providence is 6-1-0 this February thanks to a five-game win streak that opened the month.
- The Friars' lone blemish over the last seven games was a 2-0 home loss to UConn on Saturday.
- PC defeated Merrimack, 3-0, on Tuesday.
- Senior Hayley Lunny (6g, 12a) leads Providence with 12 assists and is tied with sophomore Lindsay Bochna (9g, 9a) for the team lead in points with 18.
- Senior Caroline Peterson has scored a team-high 10 goals.
- Senior goaltender Sandra Abstreiter is 10-10-3 in 23 appearances, posting a .944 save percentage and a 1.77 goals-against average.
UP NEXT
- BU will either play in an opening-round game on Wednesday at Walter Brown Arena or hit the road for a quarterfinal contest next Saturday.
