BOSTON – In the final home game of the regular season, the Boston University men's basketball team will host Lafayette on Wednesday night with tip-off set for 7 p.m.

Fans are encouraged to wear red as part of a Red Out promotion. The Terriers have already clinched a home Patriot League tournament quarterfinal game but need to beat the Leopards and then Bucknell on the road Saturday (Feb. 26) to have an opportunity to earn the No. 2 seed. BU though also needs Navy to lose both of its games to Loyola Maryland and Colgate.

Lafayette has much to play for as well with just two games remaining, as the Leopards are in a three-way tie for sixth and are just one game behind two other teams. The top six seeds earn a bye for the first round, which will take place on Tuesday (March 1) with the quarterfinals set for Thursday, March 3.

TERRIER TIDBITS
  • BU is 9-4 at home this season and most recently claimed an 85-67 win against American on Feb. 12. This past week, the Terriers recorded a 1-1 road split with 78-65 win at Holy Cross and 72-53 loss at Colgate.
  • Graduate student Sukhmail Mathon (15.2 ppg, 10.1 rpg) is just 15 points away from giving the Terriers three active 1,000-point scorers. Graduate student Javante McCoy (16.6 ppg, 3.0 apg)  ranks fifth all-time at BU with 1,803 points, while senior Walter Whyte (12.9 ppg, 5.9 rpg) sits at No. 21 with 1,179 points.
  • Owner of 803 rebounds, Mathon needs three more rebounds to move up to No. 3 all-time at BU. He also just needs seven rebounds to become the first Terrier since Tunji Awojobi ('97) to have at least 300 boards in one season.
  • BU is 10-0 this season when its bench outscores the opponents' bench. The Terriers are also 14-2 when hitting more free throws.
  • The Terriers are currently averaging 70.4 ppg and 45.2 FG% while holding opponents to 66.4 ppg and 44.5 FG%.
SCOUTING LAFAYETTE
  • The Leopards most recently claimed an 84-61 home win vs. Holy Cross on Monday after dropping a 92-89 overtime decision at Bucknell. One week earlier, the Leopards beat Loyola, 77-68, at home.
  • Lafayette is 2-6 in road conference games, collecting wins at American (69-56) and Lehigh (73-69).
  • Lafayette features four players in double-figure scoring with 7-foot-0 forward Neal Quinn leading the way at 14.9 ppg with 7.5 rpg and 4.0 apg. He owns seven double-doubles this season.
  • 6-foot-2 guard Tyrone Perry is second at 11.5 ppg, while 6-foot-7 forward Kyle Jenkins is averaging 10.3 ppg and 5.8 rpg.
  • As a team, Lafayette is averaging 68.0 ppg and 43.7 FG% while holding teams to 72.2 ppg and 45.1 FG%. The Leopards have a negative 5.2 rebounding margin and are averaging just 8.6 made free throws compared to opponents' 11.0 made shots at the charity stripe.

  • The Terriers shot 53.4 FG% and held the Leopards to 45.8 FG% for the win.
  • In the last meeting at Case Gym on Jan. 2, 2020, BU only led for approximately 25 seconds and won, 73-72, thanks to senior Jonas Harper's 3-pointer with 12 seconds left in regulation.
