The Boston University men's lacrosse team will continue the 2022 season on Saturday when the Terriers welcome UMass to Nickerson Field. Opening draw is set for 1 p.m.
This will be the first-ever meeting between BU and UMass. The teams were supposed to face off last February at Nickerson, but that game was canceled.
TERRIER TIDBITS
- BU improved to 2-0 this season with a 13-8 home win over then-No. 19 Bryant on Saturday.
- The Terriers trailed, 6-4, in the second quarter, but they defended back-to-back Bulldog EMOs before closing the half with a three-goal run to grab a 7-6 lead.
- BU never trailed again, with junior Vince D'Alto's third goal of the day breaking an 8-8 tie with 2:40 left in the third quarter.
- Senior Jake Cates tallied three of his four second-half goals in the final 15 minutes to help the Terriers pull away.
- D'Alto leads BU with nine points and is tied with Cates for the team lead in goals with six.
- Junior Louis Perfetto has dished out a team-high four assists and is tied with Cates for second on the squad with seven points.
- Senior Timmy Ley has scored a goal in 24 straight games.
- Perfetto and D'Alto extended their point streaks to 19 and 17 games, respectively, with their performances last weekend.
- The Terriers have forced 13 turnovers in each of their two wins this season and enter this weekend third in the NCAA in caused turnovers per game.
- Saturday's matchup will feature two of the best riding and clearing teams in the NCAA.
- The Terriers' ride has held opponents to a .760 clear percentage, good for eighth in the country.
- UMass is sixth in the NCAA in opponent clear percentage at .703.
- BU boasts the 12th-best clear percentage in the nation at .909 while UMass is fourth in clearing at .949.
- Junior Roy Meyer is tied for 11th in the country and tied for first in the Patriot League in caused turnovers per game (2.50).
- Senior goalkeeper Matt Garber is first in the Patriot League and 11th in the nation with a .591 save percentage.
- He only allowed three goals during settled six-on-six situations in the Terriers' triumph over Bryant.
SCOUTING THE MINUTEMEN
- UMass improved to 1-1 this season with a 19-9 home win over UMass Lowell on Saturday.
- The Minutemen opened 2022 with a 14-13 loss at then-No. 11/10 Army West Point.
- Logan Liljeberg, Shane O'Leary and Kevin Tobin all have four goals apiece to lead UMass.
- Tobin is first on the squad in both assists (5) and points (9), with five (2g, 3a) of his nine points coming against the River Hawks.
- Tobin's brother, Mike, also had five points (3g, 2a)against UMass Lowell.
- Caleb Hammett is 27-for-43 (.628) at the faceoff X this season and has gathered 21 ground balls.
- All four of Sam Eisenstadt's caused turnovers this season were against UMass Lowell.
- After making just eight saves and allowing 14 goals against Army West Point, goalkeeper Matt Knote bounced back to stop 12 shots and allow just seven goals against UMass Lowell.
- He owns an 11.04 goals-against average and a .488 save percentage.
