The Boston University men's lacrosse team will continue the 2022 season on Saturday when the No. 14/13 Terriers visit Holy Cross for a Patriot League contest. Opening faceoff is set for 1 p.m.
TERRIER TIDBITS
- BU improved to 5-0 and 2-0 in the Patriot League with a 12-7 win over then-undefeated Bucknell on Saturday at Nickerson Field.
- This is the Terriers' best start to a season since 2017 when they opened the year 7-0.
- The Terriers are one of just four Division I men's lacrosse teams to remain unbeaten this season, joining No. 1 Maryland (6-0), No. 2 Virginia (6-0) and No. 3/4 Cornell (5-0).
- Their hot start to the 2022 campaign has landed them back in the national conversation, as BU is now No. 13 in the Inside Lacrosse media poll and No. 14 in the USILA coaches poll.
- That is the highest BU has ever been ranked in those respective polls.
- BU boasts the No. 1 defense in the nation, as the Terriers have allowed just 7.6 goals per game this year, including seven against a Bucknell squad that entered last weekend with the third-ranked offense in the country.
- No other team has allowed fewer than 8.0 goals per game.
- BU has been excellent on the ride this season, as the Terriers have held opponents to a .750 clear percentage.
- That ranks fourth in the nation and first in the Patriot League.
- The Terriers are also first in the NCAA in caused turnovers per game (12.8) thanks in large part to junior Roy Meyer, the USA Lacrosse Magazine Men's Division I Player of the Week.
- Meyer had a career-high five caused turnovers against Bucknell and is third in the nation with an average of 3.6 caused turnovers per game.
- Senior goalkeeper Matt Garber ranks second in the nation with a 7.79 goals-against average and is fourth in the NCAA with a .624 save percentage.
- On offense, junior Vince D'Alto leads BU in both goals (15) and points (26). He is also tied with classmate Louis Perfetto for the team lead in assists (11).
- Senior Timmy Ley has scored a goal in 27 straight games.
SERIES HISTORY
- BU owns a 5-2 record against Holy Cross in seven contests against the Crusaders, including a 16-6 triumph in Worcester last season.
- The Terriers have won four straight games against Holy Cross, averaging 13.0 goals in those victories.
- BU is 3-1 all-time in Worcester, with the one loss coming in 2016.
- This will be just the second time that BU and Holy Cross have faced off in March, as the two squads had closed the regular season against one another for each of the Terriers' first five years in the conference.
- In addition, this will be the first time BU will play an afternoon game at Holy Cross.
SCOUTING THE CRUSADERS
- Holy Cross enters the weekend 0-6 and 0-2 in the Patriot League after a 17-7 loss at Lehigh this past Sunday.
- Four of the six losses have been to teams that have been ranked in the top 20 at some point this season.
- Dean DiNanno and Jayce Lambert have each tallied a team-high seven goals, with DiNanno adding a team-best six assists to lead the Crusaders with 13 points.
- Chris Conlin has caused 12 turnovers this season and is once again among the NCAA leaders in that category, currently ranking ninth in the nation with 2.0 CTs per game.
- Connor DePiero has faced off at 49.3% (72-of-146) this season, including a 16-for-26 performance against Army West Point on March 6.
- Goalkeeper Dawson Friers has made five starts for Holy Cross, posting a .492 save percentage and a 17.43 goals-against average.
- BU will travel across the Charles River to face No. 19/17 Harvard on Tuesday night.
- Opening faceoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
