BOSTON – Remaining on the hunt for its second conference title in three years, the No. 3-seeded Boston University men's basketball team will visit No. 2 Navy with the PenFed Credit Union Patriot League semifinal matchup set for a 4 p.m. tip Sunday afternoon on the CBS Sports Network.

The Terriers earned their 26th semifinal appearance in a conference tourney with a 76-64 home win over No. 6 Loyola Maryland on Wednesday night, while the Midshipmen eliminated No. 10 American, 71-64, at home. They will be meeting for the third time ever in postseason play after BU defeated Navy in the 1959 NCAA Sweet 16 and in the 2020 PL quarterfinals.

CONFERENCE TOURNAMENT HISTORY

  • Avoiding the first round for the seventh time in nine years, BU is 53-34 (.609) all-time in conference tourneys and 10-7 (.588) in the PL with a pair of title game appearances (2014, 2020).
  • The Terriers are 17-8 (.680) all-time in semifinal games and 2-4 in road PL matchups, most recently falling in the 2021 PL quarterfinals to Colgate. They last played a road semifinal game (as the No. 2 seed) in 2011, posting 55-49 win at No. 6 Hartford.
  • While BU owns wins over No. 1 seeds in 2020 and 2010, the Terriers are seeking their first win against a No. 2 seed since 1997 (beat Drexel as No. 1).
  • Outside becoming the first team in both program and Patriot League history to win a title as the No. 3 seed in 2020, BU has not had a lot of success in the No. 3 slot, posting a 11-10 overall record with a 3-3 mark in semifinal meetings. Team last played in (and won) a true road semifinal game in 1987 at Niagara, 84-82.
