BU Today: BU Softball is Going for a Grand Slam
BOSTON – Riding a nine-game win streak, the Boston University softball team will resume Patriot League play by hosting Bucknell in a three-game weekend series starting Saturday at 12 p.m. on ESPN+.
The Terriers most recently on Wednesday extended their road win streak to nine games, the third longest active streak in the country, with a 5-2 win at Big East leader UConn, while the Bison dropped a 5-1 decision at Penn State. Now BU will focus on its active 20-game conference win streak, the second longest in the country behind James Madison's 22 wins in the CAA, after earning a run-rule sweep at Lafayette last weekend.
TERRIER TIDBITS
- BU is 4-0 at home and is tied for the nation's fourth longest active home win streak at 15 games dating back to last season with two wins apiece this season against Merrimack and UMass Lowell.
- The reigning Patriot League Player of the Week and senior Emily Gant delivered a game-changing three-run homer against the Huskies on Wednesday. She currently ranks 26th nationally with a .446 batting average and is second on the team at 28 RBIs.
- Sophomore Kayla Roncin ranks 21st at .453 and is No. 4 in the country with 48 hits while adding a team-high 33 runs scored.
- Both sophomore Lauren Keleher (.347) and graduate student Jen Horita (.313) are batting over .300. Senior Nicole Amodio (.291) is close behind while posting a team-high six homers and 29 RBIs.
- Junior pitchers Allison Boaz (11-4, 1.84 ERA) has two saves, while classmate Lizzy Avery (9-8, 2.88 ERA) has one save with 107 strikeouts in 102.0 innings.
- Overall, BU is batting .296 while holding teams to .255 with a 65-59 advantage in extra-base hits.
SCOUTING BUCKNELL
- The Bison started conference play with an 8-0(5) win vs. Holy Cross and two one-run losses (2-1, 1-0).
- Nicole Rivait is batting a team-high .329 with a homer, team-high seven doubles and team-high seven RBIs.
- Zoie Smith is batting .282 with four RBIs, while Chase Knapp (.234) has two homers, six RBIs and team-high nine runs scored.
- Bucknell has had five pitchers make at least eight appearances this season. Kelly Toomey (3-10, 4.14) owns 50 strikeouts in 66.0 innings and has joined Madison roukey (1-3, 5.25 ERA) in recording a shutout.
- Bucknell is batting .203 on the season while holding opponents to .306 with opposing teams posting a 78-27 advantage in extra-base hits.
SERIES HISTORY
- BU is 16-7 all-time after winning all four road games last season by one run apiece.
- The Terriers are facing the Bison at home for the first time since winning two of three in 2018.
- Bucknell came to BU for the 2019 Patriot League tournament but never faced the eventual champion Terriers after going 0-2.
