Terriers Drop Road Contest To No. 24 Navy

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The Boston University women's lacrosse team fell to No. 24 Navy 16-6 on Saturday evening at the Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium.
 
The Terriers held the Mids to one goal in the third quarter, but were held to one goal in the second and third periods.
 
Junior Lauren Kaye tallied two points with a goal and an assist, while sophomores Kendall Sims and Tobey Tick as well as freshman Matty Spaeth also found the back of the net. Sophomore goalie Reilly Agres returned to make nine saves.
 
Reagan Roelofs recorded a game-high five goals and seven points, while Leelee Denton added three goals and an assist. Jo Torres stopped six shots between the pipes.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • In the first two-and-a-half minutes of the game, Barry shook off her defender and got a pass from Kaye by the left post to score the game's first goal.
  • Navy answered with three consecutive goals, but sophomore Ellen Monahan waited for Kaye to cut down the middle make it a one-goal game with 3:36 left in the first.
  • The Mids scored seven unanswered goals over the next 16:50 to go up 10-2.
  • Spaeth raced from atop the 12-meter fan and beat Torres near the right post to cut the deficit to seven at the 1:46 mark of the second.
  • Both teams notched just one goal each in the third quarter. Gil Eby scored 46 seconds into the quarter, while Sims dodged two Mids defenders to make it 11-4 with 10:51 to go in the stanza.
  • Agres made two point-blank saves on Roelofs midway through the period, including a kick-stop.
  • Barry converted from the free position to open the fourth quarter with 11:44 remaining, cutting the Terrier deficit to six.
  • Roelofs scored on Navy's ensuing possession, but Tick scooped up a ground ball after Kaye's shot and scored to make it 12-6 with 9:40 left.
  • The Mids scored the game's final four goals from that point.
 
GAME NOTES
  • BU finished 19-for-22 on clear attempts, compared to Navy's 15-for-17.
  • Sims also finished with four ground balls and three caused turnovers.
  • Graduate student Maggie Lohrer also caused three turnovers, and chipped in three ground balls.
  • With 20 points this season, Barry has set a personal-best in points in a year.
  • Spaeth's goal streak increased to nine games.
  • Kaye, who leads the team with 27 points, has eight games with multiple points in 2022.
  • Navy improves to 7-2 all-time in the series.

  • BU returns to Nickerson Field on Saturday (Apr. 16) for a matchup against Lehigh. Opening draw is scheduled for 12 p.m.
