The No. 13/12 Boston University men's lacrosse team will make its NCAA Tournament debut on Saturday when the Terriers travel to No. 9 Princeton to face the fifth-seeded Tigers. Opening faceoff is scheduled for 12 p.m., with the game to be televised live on ESPNU.
BU earned its spot in the tournament by winning the program's first Patriot League title with a 14-10 win over Army West Point on Sunday. Saturday's showdown will be a rematch of an April 9 meeting between the two schools, with Princeton earning a 12-7 win over the Terriers.
TERRIER TIDBITS
- BU has won four of its last five games since its visit to Princeton.
- The Terriers won three major year-end awards from the Patriot League; head coach Ryan Polley was named PL Coach of the Year, senior Matt Garber was named PL Goalkeeper of the Year and junior Roy Meyer was named PL Defensive Player of the Year.
- Garber and Meyer were two of a program-record five Terriers to be selected to the All-Patriot League First Team, joining senior midfielder Jake Cates, junior attack Vince D'Alto and junior defender Patrick Morrison.
- Senior attack Timmy Ley and junior faceoff specialist Conor Calderone secured a spot on the All-PL Second Team.
- BU boasts the highest-scoring attack unit in the country, as D'Alto (45g, 30a), Ley (43g, 31a) and junior Louis Perfetto (30g, 35a) have combined for 214 points this season.
- BU is the only school in the country that has three attackers with at least 30 goals and 30 assists, and the Terriers are also the only team in the nation that has three attackers with at least 65 points.
- Ley continues to own the longest goal scoring streak in the country, having found the back of the net in 38 straight games.
- D'Alto has the fourth-longest goal scoring streak in the nation at 29 games.
- Meyer is the NCAA leader in caused turnovers per game (3.38) and total caused turnovers (54).
- Only Brian Karalunas of Villanova has caused more turnovers in a single season, as he recorded 70 CTs in 2011.
- The Terriers enter the NCAA Tournament leading the nation with an average of 12.0 caused turnovers per game, with Princeton second in that category at 10.38 caused turnovers per game.
- BU caused 14 turnovers in each of its two Patriot League Tournament wins and forced 12 Princeton giveaways on April 9.
- The Terriers have been excellent on the ride this season, holding opponents to a .770 clearing percentage, which ranks fifth in the nation and first in the Patriot League.
- They held Lehigh and Army to a combined .708 clearing percentage this past weekend.
SCOUTING THE TIGERS
- Princeton, making its first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2012, finished the year No. 3 in RPI and is ninth in both major national polls.
- The Tigers did not qualify for the four-team Ivy League Tournament and haven't played since April 30, an 18-15 loss to Cornell.
- Princeton owns five wins over NCAA Tournament team: No. 2 seed Georgetown, No. 3 seed Penn, No. 6 seed Rutgers and No. 8 seed Brown in addition to the Terriers.
- All four of Princeton's losses were to NCAA Tournament teams (Maryland, Yale, Harvard, Cornell).
- All-Ivy First Team selection Chris Brown leads the Tigers in assists (34) and points (63).
- Brown's classmate, senior George Baughan, was also named to the All-Ivy First Team after leading Princeton with 16 caused turnovers and gathering 24 ground balls.
- Junior Alex Slusher leads Princeton with 41 goals and is second with 49 points.
- Sophomore Tyler Sandoval won 53.0% of his faceoffs (170-of-231) and leads Princeton with 77 ground balls.
- Senior goalkeeper Erik Peters started all 13 games for the Tigers and owns a .541 save percentage as well as an 11.91 GAA.

- If the Terriers win, they will advance to the NCAA quarterfinals next Saturday at Hofstra, where they will face either fourth-seeded Yale or Saint Joseph's.
