Thompson Earns Patriot League Offensive Player Of The Week Honor
September 26, 2022 | Women's Soccer
BETHLEHEM, PA. – Boston University women's soccer redshirt senior Amy Thompson has been named the Patriot League Offensive Player of the Week for the week of Sept. 26, the league announced on Monday afternoon.
Thompson becomes the second Terrier this year to capture the award, following junior Abigail McNulty's accolade on Aug. 28. Overall, she becomes the fifth Terrier to earn a weekly award in 2022. For Thompson, this is her first Offensive Player of the Week selection since Sept. 20, 2021.
Thompson supplied the offense in BU's 1-0 home win over preseason favorite Navy on Sept. 24. The tri-captain received a pass from McNulty and buried a 12-yard shot into the lower-left corner in the 84th minute. She finished the match with seven shots, three of which were on target. In two games last week, six of her 10 chances were on goal.
The tally marked Thompson's third of the season, tied for most on the team. She is also among the team leaders with seven points on the season. Both of her game-winning goals in 2022 have come against Patriot League foes. Overall, Thompson has a .516 shots-on-goal percentage, and ranks second in the Patriot League with 31 shots this year.
BU, tied for third in the Patriot League standings with a 2-1 league mark, hosts Lehigh on Saturday (Oct. 1). Opening kick from Nickerson Field is set for 1 p.m.
