TOLEDO, Ohio – Opening the dual season, the Boston University men's tennis team fell to 2022 Mid-American Conference runner-up Toledo, 7-0, on Saturday afternoon at the Shadow Valley Tennis Club.
The Rockets (1-0) pulled out a hard-fought doubles point and then captured six of seven singles points in straight sets to defeat the Terriers (0-1).
Sophomore
Adrian Pawlowski and junior
Johann Sajonz opened the match with a 6-4 win at No. 2 doubles against 2022 All-MAC honoree Adam Kovac and Luka Jankovic. Toledo though posted a 6-3 win in the top slot with the help of 2022 MAC Player of the Year Pawit Sornlaksup against junior
Jonah Dickson and freshman
Corey Craig to keep the first point up for grabs.
The Rockets then jumped ahead, 1-0, as Marko Galic and Vlad Meluta broke late to edge juniors
Ben Letzer and
Jose Maria Robalino, 7-5.
In singles, Letzer led BU by winning a set at line 4 and coming up just short in a super tiebreaker to Jankovic, 3-6, 6-3, 10-6. Craig won nine games in a tightly-contested 6-3, 7-6(4) loss to Kovac.
