Terriers Compete at the Suffolk Ice Breaker Invite

BOSTON – Boston University track & field started its 2023 slate at the Suffolk Ice Breaker Invite on Saturday. The Terriers primarily competed in field events at the meet which was hosted at The Track at New Balance.
 
In the women's weight throw, seven Terriers competed and all placed in the top-20. Highlighting the event was junior Emma Kowalski who threw for 17.31m (56' 9") for the all-time second-best distance in the event. She even topped her previous personal best that she set last season. Also making the Top-10 Terrier list was junior Juliana Nakouzi who recorded a distance of 15.36m (50' 4"), good for the ninth-best in program history.
 
In the pole vault, junior Alli Lofquist notched the ninth-best height in the event in BU history. She vaulted 3.35m (10' 11.75") to take third at the meet.
 
The men's weight throw saw all three Terriers who competed place in the top-10. Sophomore Gabe Hickman led the group with a fourth-place finish thanks to his throw of 15.46m (50' 8").
 
Each Terrier that competed in the shot put placed in the top-10 on both the men's and women's sides. Sophomore Kiana Lino led the BU women with a throw of 12.68m (41' 7.25") for fourth while Hickman led the men with a second-place throw of 15.73m (51' 7.25"). 
 
Sophomores Asia Hamilton and Emma Lawrence competed in the long jump. Hamilton placed fourth with a jump of 5.40m (17' 8.75") and Lawrence came in ninth with a jump of 4.91m (16' 1.5"). Lawrence also competed in the triple jump in which she placed third with a distance of 11.34m (37' 2.5").
 
On the track, sophomore Jamie Chamberlain competed in the 60m hurdles. Her time of 9.51 in the preliminary round helped her advance to the finals in which she placed 10th.
 
BU will be back in action on Saturday (Jan. 21) when it hosts the Battle in Beantown at the Track and Tennis Center.
