SATURDAY PARKING ADVISORY
The No. 5 Boston University men's ice hockey team will continue its five-game homestand this weekend when the Terriers host Maine for a two-game series at Agganis Arena. Puck drop is on Friday is scheduled for 7 p.m., with the two teams returning to Agganis Saturday at 6 p.m.
Friday's tilt will be televised live on NESN. Additionally, both games will be
streamed on ESPN+, with an audio-only broadcast of both contests
located here. Please note that Saturday's game is scheduled for 6 p.m.
TERRIER TIDBITS
- For the first time since October 2017, the Terriers are in the top five of both national polls, checking in at No. 5
- The Terriers most recently defeated then-No. 15/14 Cornell, 4-3, in a thriller at Agganis thanks to freshman Lane Hutson's goal with 3.8 seconds remaining in regulation.
- It was the Terriers' second straight win over a top-20 team, as they bested then-No. 19/17 UMass, 6-2, on Jan. 11 at Agganis.
- Hutson, senior captain Domenick Fensore and senior Matt Brown are all nominated for the Hobey Baker Award.
- Brown leads BU in goals (9), assists (19) and points (28) after assisting on the final two tallies in the Cornell win.
- Fensore has notched a career-high eight goals, with his most recent marker evening the score at 3-3 in the third period of the Cornell victory.
- Four of Hutson's eight goals this season are game-winners, which is tied for second-most in the NCAA.
- Senior Case McCarthy is the reigning Hockey East Defender of the Week after he led all league blue liners in points (3), assists (3), plus-minus (+3) and blocked shots (6); all six blocks came against Cornell.
- BU is 15-4-2 in its last 21 games at Agganis Arena, with three of the four losses coming in OT.
- The Terriers average 3.90 goals per game, which is tops in Hockey East and third-most in the NCAA.
- BU also averages 36.8 shots on goal per game, which ranks second in the country and first in Hockey East.
SERIES HISTORY
- The Terriers and Black Bears have played 140 times since first meeting in the 1923-24 season, and BU holds a 70-56-14 edge (.550), including a 30-14-6 advantage since the beginning of the 2005-06 season.
- BU has won four of its last five games against the Black Bears, including two of three meetings last season.
- The Terriers have hosted Maine at Agganis just twice since the start of the 2019-20 season.
- Twenty-seven meetings have gone into overtime and BU holds a 10-2-15 advantage in those.
- The Terriers' longest winning streak in the series was 13 games (Jan. 16, 1982 - Feb. 15, 1986).
- The Black Bears' longest streak was 11 games (Oct. 31, 1986 - Nov. 10, 1989) and came just after the BU win streak.
SCOUTING THE BLACK BEARS
- Maine enters the weekend in eighth place in the Hockey East standings but has played only 10 league games, the fewest among all 11 teams.
- The Black Bears are 7-2-1 since Nov. 26, including a split of a weekend home series against then-No. 17/19 UMass Lowell on Jan. 13-14.
- Maine earned a 5-3 win over the River Hawks on Saturday after a 2-1 setback the previous night.
- Senior Ben Poisson leads Maine with 16 points thanks to five goals and a team-best 11 assists.
- Junior Lynden Breen is tops on the team with eight goals and is second on the squad with 14 points.
- Junior Victor Ostman has started 16 of the 18 games in which he has appeared, posting an 8-7-1 record.
- He owns a 1.95 goals-against average and a .923 save percentage.
