WINCHESTER, Mass. – In its first Patriot League matchup of the season, Boston University women's tennis swept Bucknell 7-0 at the Winchester Tennis Club on Saturday. The Terriers quickly won the doubles point and earned four straight-sets singles wins in the victory.
Doubles pair of sophomores
Sydney Sharma and
Nina Gulbransen were first to take down their Bucknell opponents. Their commanding 6-2 win set the foundation for the doubles point which was soon to be BU's. Junior
Victoria Carlsten and freshman
Navya Vadlamudi took their match in the No. 2 spot in a 6-4 decision to give the Terriers the 1-0 lead headed into singles.
With a quick 2-0 lead after Bucknell retired following the first set on Court 6, junior
Kaitlin Tan posted a 6-1, 6-0 win in the No. 3 spot to get one step closer to clinching the match. Carlsten waxed her Bison opponent 6-0 in the first set and sealed the deal with a 7-5 second set win to claim the victory for BU.
Play continued on the remaining courts which featured two additional straight-sets wins from freshmen
Emily Zhao and Vadlamudi. Grad student
Shelly Yaloz earned the final point of the night after coming back from a 6-2 first set loss and took both remaining sets 6-0.
BU will play its next match in Weymouth, Mass. when it faces URI on Friday (Feb. 3).
